so mielnicki wins a decision over the 5th ranked guy in poland. a fighter who in his last fight, eaked out a majority decision over a guy with a 4-14 record. and such a performance makes mielnicki "feel good"??? what is his goal?? if he intends to spend his career as a trial horse for more talented guys to whom he will provide some solid rounds, then YES, he can "feel good" about himself. if he ever intends to be even only a fringe contender, then this was nothing to be pleased with!
– Had a surprisingly solid day in Newark, Zoo Jersey, and another good time at the fights at the Prudential Center which is where the NJ Nets play hockey.
– Was in Newark by 1:15pm, and found an outstanding Spanish restaurant called Forno’s of Spain.
– Place was big, classy, and expensive.
– Haven’t had Spanish food in a long time so I decided to splurge on myself since the future ex-wife-stoppo will be taking half of everything I own in a few months.
– Had a bottle of wine at the bar plus a glass of Sangria which put me on my ass.
– Met a nice black family (mother and two adult sons) at the bar and we laughed our butts off.
– Food at Forno’s was so good that I would take the train again to Newark just to eat there.
– Long walk to the Prudential Center in the summer heat.
– In my seat at 5:15pm for the first untelevised undercard bout.
– Took me a minute to figure out why I was seeing 4 fighters in the ring plus two refs.
– Thought I was watching Boxing’s version of the “Battle Royale”.
– Realized that I was so plastered that I was seeing double.
– Not sure how that event made any money, as the Pru Center was fairly empty for the entire card.
– Left before the main event started, was on the 10:30pm train home, and walked thru the door at 1am totally exhausted.
– Next live boxing event for me is July 11th to see Katie Taylor / Amanda Serrano 3 at Madison Square Garden in NYC.
– Not a big fan of women’s boxing but this is a historical event as the entire card is female, plus this will be my first time at the big room at MSG.
– Staying in and recovering today, Sunday, 6/22.
– Tough being 60 years old and partying like it’s 1999………………..
