Comments Thread For: 'New era' for The Ring, same ongoing mess for media

My first masthead credit appeared in The Ring ****zine. My first professional byline appeared in The Ring. First feature story, first column, first BWAA award-winning article (#humblebrag), first on-screen credit for TV talking head appearance -- Ring, Ring, Ring, Ring.

I got mixed feelings on this turki dude. Its nice to see big fights happening more often, and im a big fan of the Ring ****zine hard copies. However, he is acting very authoritarian like.

People calling him "His excellency", man if you call him that you are weird asf.

Lot of folks are bending the knee to him, and now with him buying and controlling the media, he has bigger ambitions

Fantastic article. Well thought out and truthful without bias. Something that is slowly becoming more and more difficult to find in journalism. One good that's come from all this s.m., YouTube, online blogs (referring to self publications, unpaid for by large companies) is that it allows for a large public dispersal of journalism and media coverage to exist, the downside is its usually more difficult to find and therefore less accessible than say going to ring ****zine website that most boxing fans will know about and getting a large amount of boxing news/articles in one spot (how honest that may be is debatable at best from this point on). It's looking more and more like we're witnessing the death of honestly independent large news/journalism (msnbc, fox, even CNN are all just loudspeakers for there owners personal and political beliefs), not to say that it wasn't happening at all before but it's never been to the extent we're witnessing now. Hopefully honest independent unbiased journalism will find a way to survive and maybe even in time thrive away from large publications like Ring.

Yawn Yawn. Just keep the good fights coming. All the other stuff can't be no worse than what the sanctioning bodies and promoters are already doing which by the way wasn't getting fighters paid great money and also wasn't giving the fans the great match ups we 've seen under Turki. He could be overbearing (which am not the big fan of) even moreso now than ever with the consolidation of things but it wasn't like the Ring was this pure establishment during its last run anyway. He said there will be independence, so let's wait and see. The tragic Kashogi situation is way above his paygrade. Gotta keep this momentum. Carry on Turki.

Some of the writers who were approached were like, 'OK, we’re interested. But do we get to write critical things about the Kingdom?' And they were told no.
Why would they need to write things critical of the kingdom? Just cover the boxing, like you're being paid to. If I'm getting a fight I want to see, I don't give a shit about some journalist criticising the host nation, or that of the publication.

are any of these boxing writers as outraged about the way boxing has been run for the past two decades or so ? are they screaming lets get boxing back in the mainstream of sport again ? Are they realizing how many fans are lost and get lost due to lack of access to fights. Where is the outrage at a sport that keeps getting smaller and inbred as the years go passing by ? The love of sport ? Is it ? Easy target the Prince or whatever the hell he is supposed to be ? Outrage ? Outrage the the current problems with boxing and assess to fights maybe that would keep guys like the Saudi who has money. Sell to the highest bidder is how boxing plays now.
