Comments Thread For: Troy Isley eases to win as Abdullah Mason steals the night

On Friday in Norfolk, ******ia, Troy Isley inched closer to a middleweight title shot with a disciplined and skilled win over Tyler Howard - while Abdullah Mason made a much bigger noise.

During the ring walks I remembered that I had seen Howard before. I think it was on ESPN and he looked limited back then. After a long layoff, they dusted him off and presented him as a heavy handed pressure fighter (which I didn't recall him being). Suffice to say I wasn't surprised by the result and wasn't impressed with Isley's performance.

It was ridiculous how throughout the fight ,Tim especially, was referring to Howard as some big dangerous puncher when he's got less than a 50% KO ratio. I don't know why they were insisting on blowing smoke up our ass like that , but it sure was annoying. I don't see Isley winning any kind of major title , barring extremely lucky matchups. He's just not that good. He's got skills but no special effects . He was way too patient and respectful of a guy that didn't warrant it. He should have gotten Howard out of there early.

Abdullah Mason was FIRE , I would never miss one of his fights. He learned a good lesson about being over eager and careless last night , but even better, he showed that he's going to get up and handle business .

Keyshawn is graduated from prospect to contender , I like a fight between him and Tank . Keyshawn can win that one though Tank would probably have to be favored. I'd also like to see Keyshawn versus his amateur nemesis Andy Cruz.

thats what you get when you match a contender like isley with a journeyman (dont let the record fool you) who was a 10-1 underdog anyway.

Howard's KOs all came against very, very limited opposition (guys with single digit wins and double digit losses). I remember that ESPN was showcasing him on a few undercards and he lost his "step-up" fight (by wide decision IIRC) on the Mayer/Hamadouche card. I like Isley and root for him because he's from the DMV but he doesn't wow me.

That Mayer / Hamadouche fight was an excellent brawl. That's what made me a Mayer fan.
Howard and Bobby Bentons " fight one round" plan was pure ******ity. Not that it mattered , Isley was always going to beat him. Isley is good , but not any more than that.
