Comments Thread For: Malissa Smith Q&A: 'Women Boxers Are Delivering, With the Best Fighting the Best' (Part 2)

BS: Boxing often has an effect on how people carry themselves. Is that the same for, say, Katie Taylor and the other great women fighters? Smith: The case with Katie, I have to tell you, I've met many fighters. I've interviewed them. I train alongside them at Gleason's Gym. I met Katie Taylor, I am a quivering fangirl. I don't even want to say to her, I am so overwhelmed. I talked to her coach, I can't really talk to her. I can't ask her the questions because her presence is that overwhelming, it is that strong, as an athlete, and as someone who is completely self-possessed within themselves. Now, not all fighters have that, not all athletes figure it out, not all humans have that. She definitely has that.

Nothing interesting in this book. The writer fails to tell readers important because information. For example, promoters stay from Shields because of how nasty she is and because she’s a hood rat. Showtime dropped Shields because they got fed up with her posse of hood ****. Her brother attacked a trainer at a weigh-in, and then she fabricated a story after getting knocked out by a 135 pound amateur male and said the fighters trainer took the padding out of the gloves which was an absolute lie. Also, gor all the talk about Shields, the writer fails to tell you that it’s been over six years since Shields stopped any opponent and yet, she has the nerves to call herself the GWOAT. Ann Wolfe, Christy Martin, Layla Ali, and Lucia Riker would easily whoop Shields arse.

Katie is a figure in womens boxing, but, she has no personality whatsoever. Serrano is lucky that Jake Paul signed her. But her trainer is an absolute disrespectful ****** which doesn’t help.

Then you have a fighter like Baumgardner who is a drug cheat which doesn’t help the sport

Things are getting better for women in boxing as long as they’re willing to fight in the UK where they will definitely get robbed if they don’t KO their opponent.

When anyone write a book on womens boxing and don’t tell you the inside, and the facts, the book is not worth the paper it’s written on. This is a very vanilla, shallow, non-interesting book which fails miserably to tell the reader what’s really going on. This book should be free because a five year old could do a better job.

      Really good article.

Really exciting to see how women's boxing is evolving in such a short period of time.
