Comments Thread For: Impressive Prospect And Free Agent Mercado Ready To Fight Anyone, Anywhere

Ernesto "Tito" Mercado has been walking a tightrope in this business since turning pro. The precocious 22-year-old from Pomona, California, has backed himself through his career to date, staying a promotional free agent and staying active, fighting his way up the ladder and even to BoxingScene Prospect of the Year honors last year. He has stayed in an unusual spot, and this week boxes on a DAZN show in Texas with a record of 14-0 (13 KOs). Eleven of his opponents have failed to escape the first two rounds. Mercado boxed five times last year, and fights for the second time in 2024 when he takes to the ring in the Red Owl Boxing Arena in Houston against 22-4-1 (13 KOs) L.A-based Colombian Deiner Berrio.

Mercado was a talented amateur, and is now a good prospect. His development as a professional thus far has been to match him on local club shows against “no-hopers.” That pattern continues tomorrow night against trial horse Berrio, a classic “opponent” who hasn’t fought in more than two and a half years and has lost four of his last six fights (dating back to 2017). Tito is very likable, but Neto appears to be the quintessential “stage parent,” too clever by half.

Getting fking tired as hell of this "anyone, anywhere" CRAP when a fighter knows damn well that is not what they will do! They say "anyone, anytime" and then proceed to fight a guy who has NOT FOUGHT in almost TWO YEARS and has lost FOUR out of his last SIX fights!!!! Enough of this B.U.L.L.S.H.I.T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fight someone who is active and 15-1 or 12-0 or 14-2 with a win streak!! Not this worthless crap he is fighting this week. NO ONE wants to see this! We want to see prospects fight prospects like on recent cards and in the past with ShoBox, PERIOD!

He’s a free agent with no major promotional backing. He’s taking opportunities& staying active. Should he have told Red Owl , that opponent sucks , I’m not taking a fight on TV!

He fought 5 times in 2023 , including Jeremiah Nakatila & Xolisani Ndongeni & now he’s already fought twice in 2024.

              Chill out

I'm not going to chill out. ALL SIX of these fighters (//krikya360.com/undercar...ril-26--182643) are taking risks this month and he fights a HAPLESS, HELPLESS opponent who was INACTIVE, 10 years older, and lost FOUR of his last SIX fights who just quit! The problem is he should have NEVER accepted that hapless opponent. Boxingscene to this point didn't even announce him as the winner because that sht fight doesn't belong on TV or anywhere.
