Comments Thread For: Richardson Hitchins: "I Know I Gotta Be More Exciting"

Richardson Hitchins smiled at those who questioned whether or not he was ready to take his career to the next level. His talent was undeniable but with less than 20 fights under his belt, taking on a veteran like Jose Zepeda might've been more than he could chew. Hitchins, through it all, was never worried about what the former title challenger could bring to the table. Simply put, the one-time Olympian knew that he would dominate. He was right.

There were flashes of excitement in his performance.

The problem with guys with skills & style like Hitchins is that they play it safe for too much of the fight. Zepeda looked utterly defeated by the 5th round. By the 9th he looked ready to go. He could have or should have stepped on the gas, walked Zepeda down & forced the stoppage

His corner was telling him to press harder & instead kept playing it safe & walking backwards. I 100% agree with “hit & don’t get hit”. But there comes a point where youre completely outclassing a guy who can’t hit you and you need to hit him MORE.

Hitchens say he wants to be exciting, but that calls for him to expose himself. That's not as easy as it sounds. He's not going to get sloppy and forget how to box and he's not going to put himself in a bad situation, where he's the underdog. Hunt giants, that's exciting.

Even he knows he is Boring. Jab(hit), run around the ring and hug (not get hit). They called it sweet science, the art of hit and not get hit, skills.

Can't wait to see the Hitchens vs Devin.

Devin vs Regis, hugfest by Devin

I'll concede this one. Of he played safety first for the first 5 rounds after he established dominance and then went in for the kill then it would have been masterful. But to still be using your cat like reflexes to jump back out of the way of danger is unacceptable. Hitchins, Shakur and Devin need to look at old tapes of PRETTY BOY FLOYD and not MONEY MAY. Or just look at Tank and Boots!

He was more exciting against Bauza. If he throws more combinations and walks down an opponent at times, he'll do fine.

                    High risk, low reward type.

Therefore, he's not expected to get another willing partner to dance with him anytime soon. But he should take any fight to stay active, when none is available.
