On the heals of Friday's announcement by HBO Sports that Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s victory over Juan Manuel Marquez generated an impressive 1 million pay-per-view buys, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer made it clear that although he believes boxing and mixed martial arts can co-exist, he's confident that boxing will continue to outperform all other combat sports. "Media members kept talking about boxing is dying, but we knew what we had and we stayed the course and in the end, we have been vindicated," Schaefer commented in a recent interview with Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports.

It doesn't really make a difference. UFC is still caking off TV and PPV like it's a machine. UFC 103 pulled 400k buy rate with barely any promotion and a less than stellar card.
Look what GBP did to promote this fight. You can't compare the two. Dana put together a great card for UFC 100 with not even half the promotion Marquez vs Mayweather had and still pulled 1.7 Million buys. Why? Because his fan base builds by the event.
So for 1 fight that makes over a Million buys, the UFC has 3-4 decent cards that pull anywhere from 300-500k average with about 12-14 events a year that average the same or more depending on the card.
Trust me, Dana is not bothered at all. He simply just spoke out his mouth as he usual does, you know...something Boxers or Boxing promoters NEVER do

there's some truth to what you're saying.
GBP/HBO pulled out all the stops for floyd/jmm.
UFC hardly promotes it's events accept w/ shows on TV (ultimate fighter, and another show on UPN or something) and they still do good.
the UFC is consistent... but boxing without someone like Pac or PBF won't generate big numbers.
