NSB Pick Em 2022 MASTERTHREAD

Nice to see some debate over the rules and stuff... that's very much in the ethos of the game and in the early days I put much more effort into getting player engagement but for a variety of reasons that's slipped a bit over the last coupla years and we didn't even have a meaningful pre-season discussion thread for this year. Genuinely now is the time to start this kinda discussion to make sure we got time to build a proper consensus and give the different ideas due consideration before the start of the next season...

I'm busy today but Ms Ks away for the weekend with my youngest so I'm gonna have a bit of time on my hands and I'll lay out some of the pros and cons and the rationale for the various decisons we've made over the years... as well as offering a number of other proposals and ideas to consider that I've been mulling on to address the various issues raised.

Well, not a bad idea but the multipliers do add some interest to the game. I think chance and community cards were put in Monopoly to make it more interesting. I think we could use a few tweaks rather than throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Whereas you can't use x5 on favourites there might be a case for not being able to use x3 on fights with massive favourites like -700 Danny Garcia for instance - or even just not having fights with -700 favourites

We could leave the underdog multipliers. If we use more fights, there are more underdog multipliers available, and upsets do happen quite regularly.

On the other hand, we can't compare picking fighters with Monopoly or other games... Seriously, I think that a League deprived of all multipliers except the underdog ones would be much more balanced and interesting. OK, there goes my dream of picking a draw x3 right one day, but ultimately I love this game more than myself

OK gentlemen, so there we have it... finally up to date once more. I'll aim to get tonights fight on as well but then I'm away for a few weeks doing my hippie festival stuff so expect a bit of a break... should be able to pop in often enough to put up new threads although if you get a chance NC Uppercut you could maybe do a couple of em. Schedule ain't busy anyway.

So... quiet week in terms of the number of players who picked... I know I missed it but seems like a few other did too... only 24 picks this week which is a low for this year, whether that's just the general attrition we usually get later in the year or some other reason time will tell I guess.

First off big props to the 4 dudes who picked Isaac FTW b morph NC Uppercut SUBZER0ED and particularly keithj who pulled a blinder here with the perfect x5. Kudos to you all gents.

Also a warm welcome to new player El Escorpion and a warm welcome back to long time veteran BlakBread904 who ain't been with us for a year or two. Great to have you with us gents!

Okay gentlemen, unsurprisingly the vast majority correctly picked Danny for the win and in fact the single most popular pick was the perfect one, DEC CLEAR although from what I'm hearing - and from the 'Scene's live card it could very reasonably have been scored wide.
