Anyways, as far as stopping a fighter not making any effort, one problem is they're just gonna btch and complain about an "unfair" stoppage despite not doing sht to try to win.

I do agree though, something should be done for fighters who slip into survival mode. Fighters do get warned and stopped, but only if they're taking a visible beating. That doesn't apply to fighters who make zero effort to win and only try to last the distance, but I think it should.

It would save the fans the trouble of sitting through 12 rounds of a Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. or Pac vs. Clottey type of fight.

But I also think fights like that don't happen too often, especially in big fights, maybe that's why a rule like that hasn't been enforced.

I believe that a rethinking of the clinch rule would certainly make a difference, especially in the pros. I just watched Cleveland Williams vs Sonny Liston and I'm thinking here are two guys with cement fists. I started thinking about Tyson and his era. How whenever Tsyon would get close his opponents would hurriedly try to tie him up.

I noticed that when Liston would put his head on Williams' chest that Williams, nor Liston, would automatically clinch like todays heavyweights. They would do just as they are paid to do, to fight rather than clinching. Today you try to remember if you bought tickets to the fights or to the embracing contest.

Some guys just get tied up and I understand that. But there is just too much hugging in the Heavyweights today........Rockin'

If this was the rule in boxing it would be a hell of a lot more entertaining because it would force fighters like Callum Smith/Chavez jr to actually fight back rather than try just to survive 12 rds when they know they lost but don't want to be kod.

Basically it can be called the required offense rule that says a fighter has to be offensive enough at least every few rds otherwise they'll be told they need to start attacking if they don't want to be stopped (say after they're warned they have 1-2 rds to mount offense)
What if a fighter wins the first 8 rounds but then coasts.
Their would be a huge outcry if that happened.

As long as the fighter who did that doesn't get hit in a 1 sided beating in those rds while only blocking the ref shouldn't interfere, but even if he does interfere the fighter would be safe because after being given a warning they'll still have 1-2 rds to get on the offensive before being tkod.

Basically what im saying is that Smith should've been warned by the ref & told if he didn't start mounting offense hed be stopped.(if the rule I'm saying existed)
Every rule in boxing is subjective in a limited way, that means its seen and acted upon at the discretion of the ref-judge, if they dont see or acknowledge what you see its never going to be a case of everyone is happy, people will always make mistakes.

Boxing is not computer science where things stop in their tracks because one dot was in the wrong place, this is human judgement and that will always be skewed according to somebody with a different view, nothing we can do about it without a complete over haul which is never going to happen because its too entrenched in old ways and there are too many chiefs and not enough indians to make a workable system.
