We all saw the fight. It was not Rubillar that we know fighting Segura. Rubillar was being punished from round to round by Segura. He appeared very weak and not ready to fight. True enough, the informations that later cropped up explained his very bad performance. We were actually very worried that he wont end the fight alive. The decision to stop the fight is the most rationale option. We admire Rubillar's courage though. Given a longer time to prepare, we believe Rubillar would have a much better chance to win over Segura. But not in that match.

Win or loss, Koncz had no right... ******.. If you allow this to happen, it's not a good thing to boxing when anybody can throw a towel..

What mystifies me is Kohn's claim that the ref spoke to him prior to what turned out to be the final round of the fight about abbreviating the contest. If this is true, why did Pabon talk to Kohn instead of Salavarria?
Also surprising is that Kohn's throwing in the towel was legitimized by the ref who should have known that Kohn was not part of Rubillar's corner and therefore any decision he makes on behalf of Rubillar cannot not be honored, even if he was the fight's matchmaker.
With all that said, I feel that another observation must be added: Elorde's management style as illustrated in his agreeing to send Rubillar to Mexico on 48 hour notice, is, to put it kindly, something that leaves much to be desired. It's not as if Mexico is just a city block away.
I've seen a good number of Rubillar fights and I believe that a well-prepared Rubillar would have been a lot more competetive against the Segura who fought the way he did in their meeting.
Rubillar has over a dozen losses in his record. I am convinced that blame for more than half of that can be deposited at the front door of Elorde.
