And i think you could safly say the same thing if he fought Dawson....if he beat Dawson ...the excuses would be that Dawson hadnt fought nobody or he lost that Glenn Johnson fight or Tarver was washed up etc
Like i said i didnt outwardly like Calzaghes style but i do respect him !
I understand your opinion, and there's loads of reasons behind it, but I think even the americans know when enough is enough, also this time would be different in loads of aspects, first of all Dawson has already faced true opposition in Johnson and Tarver, Lacy hadn't, even though you can argue that they are over the hill but I strongly doubt that the americans would be able to keep up excusing their loses.
Furthermore the beating of Jeff Lacy couldn't do anything than lead to speculations that he might have been too hyped, I can agree with that on some points. I don't think the beating Dawson would take if he lost, would be half as bad as the one Jeff took, so I don't think the loss automaticly would become as big as upset as the Jeff Lacy fight. I think, that Dawson held the key to american respect - they've lost too many young prospects lately to write off such a big name as Dawson. I think every factor points in that direction.
Max Kellerman pointed it out too in the postinterview with Joe after the RJJ fight. I really think Dawson was the last brick of Rome.

Man I don't know what to make of this, I really wanted Calzaghe to have finished with Chad Dawson, it's like his legacy really needs it. He had more to prove to me, even though I feel like one of his biggest foreign fans.
yeah id have loved a farewell fight with dawson

i think a win over dawson would cement calzaghes position as a modern ATG, think about he beat the best young SMW and best younf LHW (dawson and kess). he would have cut both divisions off at their knees.

it would also make it harder to rank b-hop ahead of him in the rankings as B-hop has quite literally ducked the dawson fight

but joe has always struck me as being quite single minded and someone who knows what he can and can't do, he doesn't pay alot of attention to crtiics or media, he knows how good he is and hes proved it. because of that i dont think he has the hunger for it anymore so id rather not see him in the ring

p.s. calzaghe at CW would be interesting but HW he would be KTFO

          calzaghe is such a douche.

i mean i love fighters talking trash, its great. but only when they are hyping fights. calzaghe has been talking all this **** about froch and hopkins, but dont have the balls to get in the ring with em. its as big a ***** move as i ever seen. this guy just have no class whatsoever.

as for him joking about beating wlad, hes not. enzo cal said pretty much the same thing a few months back. said the whole division has zero talent and is pathetic, that he could train calzaghe to move up and beat those guys easily. joe apparently thinks the same.

They would of soon found another brick lol
How can you say Dawson held the key to American respect!?
At the time of the Jones fight Dawson was a nobody...and still is to some degree !
If you genuinely think that a win over the then little known Dawson would consolidate Calzaghes resume and kerb poor opinion of him state side then i think your opinion is a little narrow mate
I just dont think calzaghes style was that admired across the pond ...myself included !
But what he could do was adapt ...witch is what made him a very hard man to beat on his day !

Yeah, he wasn't build for HW, that's for sure. I think he's either joking about this or drunk while stating this. Even nuthuggers must face the reality here, Wladimirs arm is longer than Joe Calzaghe!

Adamek would kill Calzaghe, let alone the incredible physical specimen Wlad.

he's joking, he said wlad cause he is the recognised heavyweight champ but i've seen interviews where he's said he could win a heavyweight title but "i wouldn't want to fight the big guys".

My world will fall off its axis if Carnivore isn't on this thread within the hour claiming how Calzaghe is a glass chinned fraud.
