Was just about to say that. Seriously, he should have used it alot more against Baldomir and DLH, everytime he'd throw the jab he'd land it. This is a great thread and I've thought of this before, Mayweather needs to start poppin the jab alot more

Floyd is a smart fighter and knows which tools to use exactly against different oponents.
Because they are bigger you can't use your jab?

How come Tyson was able to out-jab people at his best...like he did against Tucker?

When Hatton came charging in, couldn't he have used a stiff jab followed up by a straight-right followed by whatever else?
And even used his feet to get away by moving side to side, backwards, etc?

floyd does make fights harder than they have to be..he couldve dominated oscar and end hatton earlier..if he just snapped the jab more..but i think floyd does these things on purpose to set up rematches

Because Tyson and Floyd are alike how?
Two different types of fighters, Tyson jabbed to get on the inside and make his opponents throw and miss, so he can counter. Floyd is different fighter tactically and goes via the way of the least risk.

Oh, and forgot to add, Floyd did use jab to set up the one two three against Hatton, only he did not do it as often as I would have liked him to do.

Yes, I feel the same but to say you shouldn't use the JAB is crazy. Even Roger said it was #1 to have. That's why I'm confused. I want to know what Floyd is seeing so it would be interesting to see if anybody can ask him.

            Maybe hand problems???

You jab 50 times a round and that adds up on his brittle hands. That's the only thing I could think of. Which also goes with his decline in punch-out-put.

I just thought the "JAB" was the weapon to have as number 1 (like Roger said) and if you have Floyd's reach, why not use it as your main weapon?

Has Floyd watched to many Roy Jones Jr. fights?
Imagine if Roy concentrated on perfecting his JAB and used it more often.

I personally don't get. Anybody that actually boxes know why you would avoid using the jab?

Anybody have interview connections to ask Floyd this?
Fighters who rely on reflexes and athleticism rarely use their jab...even though it in theory should be their best friend...maybe when Floyd ages a little more, he'll realize that he should've used it more. But when you're that gifted, hey more power to them.

                  Understand what you are saying...

I was looking at it from this perspective: They both have good timing. At least Tyson did while training with Rooney.
Tyson was always smaller than his opponents in height and reach (as well as weight most of the time) but it was "Timing" that allowed him to use the jab effectively.

That's what I was talking about.

                  Some of Tyson against Tucker:

People watch Mayweather vs JLC I and II, he used the jab ALOT, only problem is he didn't go toe to toe that often. Still, I don't know why he doesn't throw the jab alot more, what a waste.

I thought I remember him using the jab a lot in the Chico fight. I haven't watched it in a while but I remember being impressed with it.
