this fight won't happen at 140. gayweather wants all the advantage he can get. at least JMM is smart and he's not gonna fall in gayweather's games like hatton did

Shane had already fought at Welter twice when he fought Oscar. And again no one at that time was claiming that Oscar was not a natural Welterweight. And Shane wanted Oscar's Welterweight belt.
No one claimed that Hagler was not a natural Middleweight. And Sugar Ray wanted Hagler's Middleweight belt.
And none of them was moving two weight classes above the highest weight they had ever fought at.Last edited by Dave Rado; 04-12-2009, 08:01 PM.

It's funny because I've always defended Floyd as being a smaller man that used his skill to fight the bigger, true welterweights out there. He's a little man that knows what it's like to have to skill against men much larger than you, that can hurt you while absorbing your punches. Floyd fighting any true 147 lb. fighter is almost guaranteed to go 12. He has to be prepared for that as pretty much his destiny when fighting men who belong at welterweight.
The funny part is that Floyd, who knows the uphill battle a great fighter has to take, relying on his skill against a man much physically stronger, is now attempting to do the same thing to Marquez to gain an advantage. I don't like that. Floyd knows he is the draw, the big name, he's the one with AT&T commercials, who was on Dancing with the Stars, and has a throng of celebrity friends- and so he knows he can set the terms (or try to).
The sad part is I remember when Floyd fought Oscar and he bitched about how the De la Hoya camp wanted a smaller ring, wanted to set the weight, pick the type of glove and dominate every little aspect. Floyd knew it was pretty ****ty to have the deck stacked against him, but he's willing to play the same game when he's in the driver seat.
I don't think Mayweather will have a problem making junior welterweight, or some catch weight between 140-147. I do, on the other hand, think Marquez would not be the same fighter at 147- and it'd almost become a joke of a fight if Floyd makes him pop up two divisions just to get a shot.
This fight is interesting at 140 because it'd be a good place for Floyd to go after Pacquiao when he beats Hatton (assuming he does).
Chump move, if true, from the Mayweather camp. There's a fine line between wanting to take advantage of your draw power and swindling the boxing fans from what could be a very good fight- AT THE RIGHT WEIGHT.

I am reposting this post because of errors in the original one.
I swear you guys never seem to amaze me with your shortsightedness of boxing.
If you want to be great you have to take great risk.
Not take good risk, and ok risk, but great risk.
Like I said before
Ready or Not, Great Athletes always take advantage of the moment.
Thats makes them great, the ability to do great things when they are not expected or ready 2.
People Consider Mayweather great because what he did at a young age, and who he beat at a young age. the dude fought for 11 years and was a champion for 10 of them...That is a great accomplishment. thats why we called him great because ready or not Floyd took advantage of the moment when the opportunities were presented to him at a young age, when people thought he wasnt ready to do them.
JMM is not a baby, He can fight Floyd at 147 and maybe can win. but i guess he isnt ready to become a truly all time great and take that on a great challenge. who knows...
but The sad truth is that opportunity doesn't knock twice. You can put things off until tomorrow but tomorrow may never come

FLoyd can get a bit drain thats it.
And if he walks around 150, he should be able to make 140 easily. Peopl lose 3 or 4 pounds in a traning session!!!!!!!

I'd say at 140 or 147, Mayweather would beat him. In all honesty. Marquez needs this fight more than Mayweather. I think it should be fought at 140, but if Mayweather doesn't want to do that, than whatever. We don't even know if Mayweather can make 140.
