Was boxing ever dead or is it really dying?

Some boxers, boxing fans, and casual sports fans believe the sport of boxing is/was dying and some go as far as to say MMA is taking over? If I'm not mistaken, last year the highest paid MMA fighter was from UFC and it was Chuck Iceman Liddle right? well i was looking in to it and saw he earned $200,000 for a PPV fight last year. Am I wrong or are these numbers correct?

Anyways, my point is, the ****tiest boxers get more than 200 thou..How is MMA taking over boxing, let alone how is boxing dying(if it was really ever dying) when you have mediocre boxers getting millions of dollars? And wasn't there articles in the 1960s issues of The Ring ****zine talking about how boxing is dying?

What do you guys think? is boxing really dying or is it just getting so much attention and being stronger than ever that the fights promoters make, disappoint fans which leads them to say boxing is dead? I think it's the latter.

    Your opinions please..

No offense to you since you've actually made a really good post but...

all this boxing is dead stuff is ridiculously old.

Not in the fact that it's alive anyway, but in the fact that MMA created it to boost their own sport up. I'm not even against MMA since I'm a fan of UFC and the like.

It was kinda like Kanye vs 50 fighting each other, and as a result both of them got more hype, and Kanye ended up outselling 50 when most people thought he was actually the smaller attraction. No one is talking about that "fight" anymore, and no one should be talking about "boxing is dead" anymore.

I hate that I see the phrase EVERYWHERE every time some LITTLE thing happens related with boxing around the world.

10,000 people showed up to a fight in Malaysia? Who said boxing was dead!
1.2 million people saw the Diaz-Marquez fight, and they said boxing was dead!
2.8 millions dollars was the gate for x vs y? Hah, boxing is dead???

    etc, etc.

Boxing will never die..It may not be the mainstream sport as it once was but I don't care..That's why i hate it when people in this forum talk about PPV numbers..PPV numbers are greatly affected by casual fans so we should not really care about such numbers..we should just be concerned about fighters trying to be the best by fighting the best available opposition..Time to relax and just enjoy these new generation boxers box for glory and boxing immortality..

Boxing is a sport, ufc is a business. There really is no comparison. The problem with boxing is that it has become a rather dull sport. Boxers don't come to fight anymore they come to win the easiest way possible. Ever wonder why there are so many gross mismatches? Boxing wasn't like that back in Joe Louis's day when the fans support was strong. Today's journeyman boxers can't make a living at boxing, and as a matter of fact some champions are living on a Chinaman's wages. Not everybody is making 40 mil a fight like Oscar De La Hoya. Boxing is marginalized and is in severe decline. What the sport needs is some exciting young fighters who can bring the fans back.
