Billy Conn went into a heavyweight fight against Joe Louis weighing about the same as he did when he fought at Light heavyweight, and outboxed Louis for a long time before getting stopped late. However, the point is, by keeping his weight down he maintained his extra speed and was able to outbox Louis. He still lost in the end, but you know what I mean.
Oh totally mate but that's his contradiction. He says he'd gain some weight. But then basicly goes on to say he won't gain weight by saying he'd be between 180-185. He's been at such a weight for lower divisions so how's he "gaining weight" as he put it? Doesn't make sense.

If he's talking about gaining a few lbs then he'd be looking at 190 which he should do I feel. 183 or something isn't enough, and is probably less then what he fought at against Tarver and Calzaghe.

At the weigh in, he'd be around 180-185, he probably would re-hydrate a little over night, and I would imagine on fight night he'd be around 185-190. I assumed he was talking about what weight he'd come in at the weigh in.

Could be right. But why de hydrate and shrink down 5 lbs for a 200 lbs weigh in, when your never going to break the limit anyway? You don't need to shrink or de hydrate at all. In fact it's in your interests and a key benefit not having to.

Perhaps Nard's been talking to Osca.

I'm not sure of the exact science, maybe if he weighed 190 or so, and didn't rehydrate he might come in dry or some ****. Fuck knows All I can think of is him intending to maintain his speed advantage, and too much extra weight could hinder his stamina.

Hopkins does sometimes walk around at about 190+.

But yes he doesn't put on as much as a lot of guys.

I'm just puzzled by him saying he'd come in at between 180 and 185 for a 200 lbs fight.

Especially when came in at 180 for a 170 fight.
Hopkins weighed in at 174 and was 182 fight night against Tarver which is 8 pounds overnight. Against Pavlik he gained 10 pounds overnight but the fight was at a lower weight. Against Calzaghe he was 173 and there was no official fight night weight but 185 seems a little high based on the what I've presented.

Where have you read or heard that he walks around at 190 +? I've personally never seen anything to indicate this.

                I don't know, habit?
