1. Get in better shape. During the build up to the fight Cotto states repeatedly that he has done the same training for the Margo fight that he did for the Judah and Mosely fight. Cotto.. I know you trained hard for those fights, but you have to go at it harder. Run 8-10 Miles 4 times or more a week during the build up to the fight if need be. Look at Margo train with his trainer, it looks like that mutha ****er is preparing to go to war.. you must do the same.
2. Move your head side to side, dont put your gloves up by your face then proceed to lean forward with your head - Cotto does this alot, he needs more head movement and needs to stop bending down, it is exposing him to some major shots including the upper cut by Margo.. You can take a page out of Manny's book for this, he showed excellent head movement against Oscar (By the way, still funny that Oscar got his ass beat by a much smaller dude for all you Oscar fans haha)
3. Circle, Circle, Circle, and take short steps - Its been said too many times already. STAY OFF THE ROPES. ROPES = DEATH. Stay in the center of the ring, take short steps back, side to side, and more importantly steps in a tighter radius around Margo. Go left and right, it does not matter. As long as you stay in the center you will do fine. Again, take a page out of Cintron's book (he was doing this successful sometimes during the 2nd match) and also P-Williams, who circled beautifully around Margo consistantly.
4. Back Margo up occassionally, and put pressure on him, then back to your game plan - I saw Champ Box post this on this form, he is soo right. Margo is confused fighting backwards when people put pressure on him. So dont be scared Cotto, as long as you are in the center of the ring he does not have the leverage to hurt you badly and land good shots. Show him angles, circle, then back him the **** up. He won't know what to do.
5. Keep that Jab on him, and learn how to fight going backwards. - These two are seperate, but really go hand and hand as well. Not only should Cotto consistantly pump out a jab to keep Margo off of his game plan, he also needs to learn how to pump out his jab when he has to take short steps backwards. However, the jab will probably not be too effective b/c Margo has much longer arms and can reach over Cotto, but Cotto is much faster so he will be able to hit Margo with his Jab more. Also, if he is circling him and giving him angles, he will land the Jab more. Going straight backwards is not good, but maybe a reality. So if you have to go back, pump out your jab then if you hit the post or ropes tie hime up and spin him. This brings us to the next technique..
6. Tie Margo up when you are find yourself going back close to the ropes, or after you pop shot him. - Once again, there are two techniques here, tying margo up when close to the ropes and also effectively using a pop shot or lead right hand and then clintching him. This is why I think Mayweather defeats Margo. He would land pop shots all night clinch, or spin Margo, get back into the center of the ring, and then give him angles and circle. I don't know if Cotto has this ability, but he damn sure better learn it. Watch Mayweather vs. Hatton for great examples, and also all of B-Hop fights, those two veterans are masters when it comes to landing punches and then smuthering themselves on their opponents, effectively landing and then preventing them from landing something in return.
7. Get a new trainer. - Cotto, I know you are loyal to your uncle, but you need to learn better techniques that you have yet to display. Also, your relationship with your unlce seems to be counter productive. I'm sure Emmauel Steward, Freddie Roach, or even one of the Mayweathers will help you train for this fight. Then if you want you can go back to your uncle. But you need a new trainer man.
8. Be Mentally Prepared for 15 rounds of war!!!! - Do not train for a 12 round fight, train as if you had to go 15 with this muther ****er.
