I dont think so. I think that's just his style. I cant see how just because a fighter is able to take a good shot, he would actually want to take them without any regard.
I highly doubt Marg's trainers told him "well since u can take 100 bombs to the head without being fazed, dont worry about defense or moving your head. Just take them and keep on coming"

hmm i wonder where floyd would be if he wasnt technically skilled and fast
where would darchinyan be without power...etc etc
****** thread
Wrong. Because in addition to speed, Floyd also posseses superb defense, accuracy, ring smarts, etc.
What else does Margarito have besides a granite chin and pressure/stamina? Its not as if posseses great boxing ability. He just comes at you, takes your best shots, and throws his in return.
the point is that generally a fighter isnt at a world class level based on how well they take punches.......
based on throwing punches with power? Yes.
based on throwing punches with speed? Yes.
based on avoiding punches? Yes.
based on volume of punches thrown? Yes.
but not typically on the ability to take punches and keep going..... only person i can think of in that category is Gatti, maybe LaMotta too but they possessed obvious skill in other departments as well
Miguel Cotto's face didn't get bloodied by itself. It's not like in The Simpsons, where the fighters hurt themselves trying to beat Homer's ass, nothing in this sport happens unless you make it happen.
Margarito is clearly not Ray Robinson, but he's physically strong, always in shape, and doesn't stop throwing punches. And not like some Sharmba Mitchell or Shamone Alvarez punches, he throws world class power punches.
Margarito's durability is a big part of what he is, but he is a very potent offensive fighter as well.

The thing is, there's no precision in what Marg does. He throws alot of wide looping punches. Yes he's strong, yes he always comes in in shape, yes he's a very offensive fighter who usually throws 100 punches a round. Leave all those attributes, but take away his chin. Do u still think he will be here today?

i wouldnt say he's a very potent offensive fighter.. i'd say the likes Roy Jones, SRL, Mike Tyson, & SRR were very potent offensive fighters. Marg doesnt possess great speed, great boxing ability, ring generalship, one punch knockout power, great defense, superb movement or anything like that.... he just keeps coming forward
and like devel said, Cotto outclassed him for the 1st 6 or 7 rounds, he made him look an absolute fool at times

There's no precision in what he does but he hits people in the face and in the ribs. I'll trade precision for the ability to bust someone's face up like that anyday.
Margarito throws punches from all angles, he has the long right hand, the left hooks, the uppercuts with both hands and some great body work. You need to give him some credit here.
I think his chin is enhanced by his ability to roll away from punches as well. It looks like he's getting hit clean but a lot of shots he loosens up and moves just a little to take some of the steam off of them.
It also doesn't hurt to be fighting people who are considerably smaller than himself. Margarito is closer to being a middleweight than a welterweight and when he's ventured north of 147, he's run into some opposition.
Williams was also a big welterweight who was able to thwart him. A smaller welterweight like Cotto or Mayweather wouldn't be able to deal with his strength and work rate.
