By Rick Reeno - Later tonight at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (34-0 30KOs) will rise to the agreed upon catch-weight of 170-pounds to face veteran Bernard Hopkins (48-5-1 32KOs). At age 43, Hopkins is 17-years older than the champion. Pavlik wants to put the executioner into retirement, and Hopkins wants to tame the young lion. [details]

i guess we'll have to wait and see how pavlik carries on the extra weight. his people says hes real sharp at the weight but thats what their supposed to say. winky wright said the same thing when he moved up to 170 to fight bhop and he looked sloppy. people not givin hopkins a chance cause of pavliks power and workrate but he still is fightin an experienced and skillful veteran at a weight hes never fought at. that situation is always a lil iffy.

I won't take too much notice of this article. Why? I remember before Calzaghe fought Lacy, most of the staff here had Lacy knocking Joe out, and many of those within a few rounds. I'll link that below in a sec.
Out of 24 staff writers:
David Sauvage: Accurately predicted a Calzaghe UD
TK Stewart: Predicted Calzaghe by stoppage in round 8 or 9
Adam Pollack: Predicted a difficult win for Calzaghe
Tom Donelson: Predicted Calzaghe by UD
Johnny Ortiz: Predicted a Calzaghe win
Richard McManus: Predicted a Calzaghe UD
Dr. Peter Edwards: Predicted a Calzaghe win
Jim Cawkwell: Predicted a Calzaghe win
8 Boxing Scene staff were right. Only 3 of those were accurate, and the majority had Lacy blowing Joe out easily, so again, how much weight do Boxing Scene staff writers' predictions really hold?
Of course, Kelly Pavlik is not Jeff Lacy, but in some ways he is still untested against elite competition. Some parallels can be drawn here: the undefeated, young, monster puncher up against the seasoned pro. It doesn't always work out how you think it will. Best thing to do? Just enjoy the fight.
And here's the link to the Lacy-Calzaghe predictions article so you can all have a good old chuckle.

I am still shocked at how many people are picking a stoppage win for Pavlik over someone that has only been down in one fight. As the fight gets closer and closer, the more i feel a Hopkins decision. Not sure why, but I'm having that same upset feeling in my stomach that i had when Campbell beat Diaz.

I'm beginning to share your sentiments on the end result. I think Hop might surprise with his energy level in the fight now. It's the only thing that was keeping me from picking him as a sure thing instead of just hoping he wins. Something about that weigh in... Is it possible a fighter can roll the clock back twice?
