I think Marquez would be even more dangerous if...

He were much more aggressive. And no, i am not saying he needs to be a brawler or defend punches with his chin. I just saw the Casamayor fight last night for the first time and it was a great display of boxing skills from both fighters.

Anyways many times throughout the fight i saw that Marquez would land different punches and sting Casamayor, where his head or body would sort of wobble. After doing this he would just stop punching and let Casamayor regain his stance and momentum leading Casamayor to Answer back.

Now, if each time he would stun Casamayor and would come forward effectively with combinations, imo he would have stopped Casamayor a bit sooner.

After the knockdown he fought the perfect example of what i am trying to say, he saw him hurt and went in for the kill and he executed perfectly

As he's gotten older he's actually gotten more agressive. Could he have gone after Casamayor more after landing solid maybe, but Casa was also landing that counter left pretty consistently. It's the way he fights and I doubt he'll change up anytime because it's been pretty effective so far. I personally hope he doesn't change up anything.

Ever notice that the only times Marquez has been dropped in his career have come when he was being aggressive? If he stepped up his attack he wouldn't be able to see straight punches coming down the pipe. He was getting tagged by Jimrex Jaca and Terdsak whenever he was trying to walk them down.

When you don't move your head, that kind of stuff happens. Marquez's style is the perfect one for his abilities.

Casamayor is not a guy you throw caution to the wind against. Personally, I think Marquez brings a nice mixture of being aggressive and also being tactical. His combinations are what really impress me. Same with Rafael Marquez. I've yet to see a fight of JMM's that wasn't exciting.

Rafael is the more aggressive of the two and as a result he tends to take regular trips to the canvas. This is not a coincidence.

Yeah even against Pac in the second fight he was being agressive and got caught with that straight left that put him down. He was succeeding when he was counterpunching and throwing those combos and getting out of the way.

I was talking more about Rafael's ability to throw great combination's but I won't argue your point.

I feel like that's that Mexican brawler mentality that tends to take over. I feel like the same thing happened with Barrera too. In order to beat Pacquiao you cannot afford to sit and trade. He's just to damn fast and powerful. You need to strictly box him.

In the first Pacquiao fight he tried to stand his ground and back him up. It didn't work.

Being more aggressive would negate what makes Marquez a great fighter, he'd be just another 30+ fighter open to the attacks of younger foes.

He was backing up when Pac put him on his ass the first 3 times. He can be knocked down counterpunching or being aggressive. I would to have JMM be more aggressive just like the threadstarter said.
