Floyd Mayweather JR. = the best boxer 2002-2008

I can understand all the hate on Mayweather JR .. however, this guy has been the best fighter boxing has seen the past 6 years or so.. alot of pepople put blame on him for not fighting Cotto.. but if u remember at the Gatti fight Hatton and Cotto and their faces didnt want no parts of Mayweather at 140..

So hatton knocks out Castillo (Floyds toughest fight) and he feels hes ready only to get his ass thoroughly whooped..

Cotto KOs Zab Judah andbeats Mosley and Im sure he would sign for a fight with mayweather at this point.. Although Cotto i believe is a much better fighter than hatton .. Floyd will pick him apart for 12 rounds.. did u ever see floyds training camp?? he can put on the wheels for 12 rounds and get the decision fairly easy..

what everyone is failing to remember is that no one wanted to take on mayweather at 140.. after a few wins they feel more confident but the most liekly thing is they will get their ass whooped.. Mayweather is a stud .. and rest assured he will probably be back and will fight and beat miguel cotto..

btw, i like cotto better than mayweather

He very well could have been the best boxer in recent times, but what good is it if he wasnt testing himself against the best in the game?

he beat jesus chavez , castillo, corrales, Judah and Baldomir the last 2 welterweigh champs, moved up took a title from dlh, then back down and beat the best 140 pounder ..

if he comes back and beats the margarito/cotto winner all is well?

i love pbf and think that in the post-roy era, he had the best skills rivaled only by Bernard Hopkins, but he did skip over some huge tests that could have solidified him as an all-time great, some of whom he even called out specifically:

          Casamayor
Kosta Tszyu (proclaimed after Judah knockout to media "I'd kill Kosta Tszyu"
          Freitas
          Sugar Shane
Oh yeah and that guy Miguel What's his name again?!?!?

I feel that if he comes back to face Cotto, that will greatly boost his status, especialy if Cotto has dealt with Oscar by then. He's letting the hype boil over so all us crazy forum heads can blow it up.

I think he would beat Cotto by the way as does Floyd's manager Al Haymon, and that's why this fight will very likely be made in 2009!

Mike Tyson's prime was only 90 seconds. It was 6-27-1988.

            After that, he was shot.

Im not demeaning his accomplishments at 130 & 135. I was actually a fan of his back then. I give him credit for the Judah win, and partial credit for the Hatton win, but Baldomir? Cmon! Oscar was a decent win just because he moved up in weight to fight him. Lets not kid ourselves though. Oscar was merely a shell of himself by the time he fought Floyd.

If he wanted the title of WW champ, then he had to fight the best welters in the game. How do u take the title from a journeyman, call yourself the best ww in the world, then refuse to defend it against any of the top welters?

I've owned Bad Barracuda "aka" Reggie on this subject plenty of times already. When Floyd was asked about a potential fight with Cotto at 140, his response was.... "Cotto is still too green. He needs a few more tuneups before i will consider fighting him" When Cotto was asked, his response was "Floyd is a great fighter, but i know i can beat him. When my team feels that the time is right, i will fight him"
