Calzaghe isnt even the best opponent Hopkins has faced....

but Hopkins is the best opponent Calzaghe will fight. hes not fighting in his backyard, 1st time in the usa, and has to move up in weight. if hopkins didnt get outpointed by jermaine taylor twice no one would even give calzaghe a chance. o yea im not trying to say calzaghe isnt good or the best at his division, but i cant see him beating hopkins by outworking him like many believe.

Doesn't there ever come a point where a fighter is just too old to do it anymore? Hopkins will always be a better fighter than Calz, but this fight is coming to late for him. IMO

i agree.. the one thing against hopkins is his age.. i just don't think he can do it like he used to.. i think calzaghe will be 2 much "right now".. but u can never count hopkins out, i'm rooting 4 hopkins, i just think his time may be gone, but i've been wrong in my predictions b4

I think this will be Hopkins last fight. He will be retired for good. I pray he doesn't get his brain scrambled like Lacy. Or end up in a Wheelchair.

I reckon Hopkins will rank about 2nd. We're talking about the last 12 months, right?

Hopkins is a freak though. His peak age was much later than most and while he is now certainly starting to get on, his age and fighting skills are on a relative level with other guys who would be in their early to mid thirties and starting to wind down.

The funny thing is, I actually think they will be coming in in at a somewhat similar age peak, as funny or silly as that sounds. Hopkins is not fighting at his peak and five years ago he had a higher punch volume, but, he is still very skillful and capable of great things in their that his experience has taught him to bring in. Calzaghe on the other hand, since five years ago, has lost quite a lot of speed, power and while he still also has his ring savvy and great spoiling skills, it seems to me that his sharp combination punching has declined and his defensive head and upper body movement has declined.

Nonetheless, I can't wait for this fight, and still think Hopkins has a huge chance at a major upset. If people think that age is the only factor that will come into play they're going to get a big shock come fight night. They must also remember that Hopkins simply isn't like most other guys and keeps so freakishly fit between fights that even though there is a big age difference, their actual fighting age might be very similar on fight night. Calzaghe is still 36 and for most fighters, apart from Hopkins, thats when they lose it! This may very well happen to Calzaghe, after all, he didn't look nearly as good against Kessler as he did just five years ago.

I think he meant if Hopkins loses where will Calzaghe rank on the list of fighters that Hopkins has fought over his career? Hopkins is a great fighter and has fought many other great fighters, but, I still think most people are underrating Calzaghe. Some are overrating him while the other half are underrating him. It's quite an amusing scenario

I know it seems like a cliche but it really is a case of if he fought in the US of good ol' A early in his career and beat the American champs he did on American soil then he would be much more recognised as the skilled fighter he is, but of course, he didn't, so isn't! lol

If he loses this fight, everything will go down the crapper for him as well as everyone will jump on the bandwagon to discredit any of his wins with the usual "All of his opponents were ****, overrated, old, bums, has-beens, never-has-beens, etc etc". I guess one day down the track, when most folks have gotten over caring where he is from and whatever other reasons for discrediting him, they will actually just go back and look at his work with an objective viewpoint and see how very damn good he was. Some of his fights were truly quite brilliant and I say this quite happily as someone who has never particularly cared for him as an actual fan but have simply enjoyed his fights as a good fighter. Nearly as much as Hopkins!

soundz honest to me! but if you ask JT, Tarver, DLH, or Winky if they felt like they were in the ring with an OLD fighter when they fought Hopkins, the answer would be NO! Joe will say the same thing! Bernard doesnt get tired and thatz what got him the win against Winky! Bernard was something like 16 years older than JT when they fought, so I guess that counts for nothing! Calz is OLD in boxing years, get it straight! Anybody still boxing past 35 is considered OLD in boxing!
