I'm sorry. That just isn't the case. Floyd will be on three reality TV series this year. He has sold good numbers with no-name comp, and his opponents are pretty much guaranteed to get their best paydays.
none of that is true of PacMan.
Pac literally makes the headlines. Pac graces talk-shows a hundred times per week. Pac influences a whole nation whom to vote. Pac this, Pac that.
I have to agree there. Manny made $2 million for his last fight, Floyd made $20 million. Floyd will probably make $15-20 for Hatton. Manny, if he's lucky, will make $3 million for Marquez.
Mayweather is huge in the hip hop industry and has been for years, due to his style (clothes, money). Most fans of hip hop know Floyd Mayweather. I've seen him on covers of dozens of rap ****zines. This was even before he even fought De La Hoya. The De La Hoya fight and Dancing with The Stars, one of the most popular shows in the country, has made him a household name and you can't say that about anyone else in boxing other than De La Hoya.
I dont think any of this is true at all. You have to look at the sport of boxing as a WORLD WIDE THING.
Cotto (Puerto Rico), Freitas(??? i forget), Pacquiao (phillapines), Pavlik (ohio), Calzaghe (wales), Bute (Canada), Hatton (UK), Are ALL mainstream sports idols in their native countires/states.
You should see the NEWS in the UK!!!! Its on youtube btw. Every week there is something on Hatton. Hatton meeting the queen, Hatton getting this reward, hatton meeting Bheckam, Hatton meeting mayweather. etc etc etc.
In this STATES, this is true, but i dont think its true outside the states
Few bring as much global perspective to the table as I do, and this article makes a solid point. Here's something not mentioned on the board or in the piece: fight fans in every country on the planet know who Floyd is. Manny fans DEFINITELY know who he is in Manny-land because he's Manny's measuring stick. All the national stars mentioned aren't a big deal in every country; Pac is big here but he's boxing big. Floyd has crossed over in the last year to be a mainstream U.S. general sports star. No one who watches sports doesn't know who he is.
If he decides who's gonna win in the US presidential elections, maybe we can compare him to Pac. But only then.
DWTS is a show that has caught on like wild fire in the US with a mostly female viewership. Hence, the cross-over appeal.
It is only one marketing venue that was strategically adopted by team Mayweather to further highlight his presence as a star in boxing.
The short exposure Floyd received is enough to gain more of the mainstream viewers who are not into boxing, to watch him on Dec. 8th.
The PPV numbers in terms of dollars and viewership, will determine what effect DWTS had in bringing more attention to the event, and to boxing in general.
Pac, no doubt, is respected in the sport. But, in terms of pulling in the ca$h at the gate, Floyd has him beat by a long shot.
As far as him influencing the presidential elections, I can only say that he'll be over doing it a bit in that dept.
And I don't believe it's in his best interest at this moment.

Pac is absolutely ADORED by 80 MILLION fans around the world. Floyd doesnt have even a tenth of that, let alone ADORING fans.
Pac is a national hero in the Philippines, is Floyd in Mt. Rushmore? When Pac drives through the street, motorists stop to let him have the road all to himself. Would anyone even honk at Floyd in the States?
Pac is Jordan, Bush, Einstein, Tiger Woods, Tom Cruise, Oprah, Donald *****, Simon Cowell, etc. all rolled into one. Floyd is not even a hundredth of Tom Cruise, who the fugg are you kidding?

Dont get fooled about the boxing purses, Pac is not just a boxer in the Philippines. He also makes a lot of money from a hundred endorsements and businesses.
He is ADORED by ALL PEOPLE a thousand miles north, south, west and east of where he lives.
He has biographies written about him, movies written about him, songs written about him. The only song about Floyd is "Dancing Queen".
Manny Pacquiao is every bit a crossover star as Floyd, and a whole lot more. But then the author implies that the Philippines is not a place of significance.
To those who know better though, Pac is the number one person in the Philippines. Bigger than all the movie actors, politicians and celebrities combined.
Pacquiao is adored by EVERYONE of the 80 million Filipinos all over the world. Floyd isnt even known by 500 K Americans.
There is really no comparison between the two in terms of celebrity status, Pac by a frigging mile. Unless of course you're racist and think that Dancing with the Stars is the best criterion for assessing celebrity status.
Yeah so Manny isnt a star in the US.
And over 1.2 million people bought Floyds last fight, so Id say your numbers are way off.
