Paul Williams vs Miguel Cotto: Who Wins?

Paul Williams size could be an advantage if he actually fought tall behind a good jab. He does not, did not against margarito and never has against other opponents including Sharmba Mitchell, one of the smallest guys he has fought. If you take a hard look at last nights fight Williams did the following things well:
Threw 1200 punches, which also functioned as his only defense
Didnt quit when margaritos body attack started hurting him
dug down in the 12th round when it looked like Margarito might have a shot at a stoppage
was effective at throwing punches at very odd angles
showed some decent head movement
what he did bad
his connect percentage was around 22%; horrible
Clinched and held almost costing him a point, and a lot of beating to the body
Threw slapping backhand jabs, that should have been countered by right hands
When margarito worked inside Paul was hit lots to the body and head
didnt take a good shot to the body, almost folding over many times
Displayed a lack of any substantial power
This fight showed me more about MArgarito than Williams, Margarito appears to have slowed down in hand and foot speed enough that it really makes it hard for him to get his offense going. He still takes a good punch and did block about 600 or so punches so maybe his hands hurt from that. He doesnt deal with South paws very well for sure, he dont like havin to pursue his opponents and outside of rounds 10 and 11 showed no fire or urgency, none. He also threw far too many wide punches when Williams was there for a lead right all night long.
If Cotto can make the adjustment to Williams height he will beat him silly and stop him by the 9th or 10th round. Cotto has way faster hand speed than Margarito showed last night. He has a much higher and consistent work rate and has shown he has no problems fighting South paws. Cotto has a very good jab, margarito pretty much didnt even try to land his. Cotto hits harder to the body and almost always throws in combinations. Cotto cuts off the ring better than anyone out there something Margarito did not do well. Cotto takes a lot of **** about getting hit too much but this is usually the result of him constantly and effectively engaging his opponents and usually he lands more punches than he takes. He wont get hit with Pauls crazy punches from the outside and on the inside he will be ripping him a new one especially if Paul tries to hug and hold. I'll take Cotto on this one but Id much rather see paul and Cintron go at it. I'll take Cintron by KO in that one.

I think Cottos chin is still bad, but its underrated at welterweight. I think he can walk through a decent amount of those slap punches. Plus Cotto has flawless head movement when he stalks. Plus that tall ass body for a target, cant see myself not goin with Cotto.

Cotto by KO !!!
What makes all yah think Williams will punish him, Cotto held his own against the very strong Zab and the very fast Malignaggi. You saw how Williams reacted to Marge's body punch, thats his weakness, now Cotto hits faster and harder bodyshots than Marge.

i think that cotto beat williams, probably stops him, and i base this off of the fight with margarito because margarito was killing williams to the body to where williams was trying to clinch a lot. cotto is a better at going to the body and fights better on the inside than margarito, plus he throws a lot more punches than margarito.
williams inside fighting is good but only to a certain point, he needs room to throw other than his inside uppercut. i think that once cotto gets on the inside and rips some shots to williams mid section early in the fight it is going to take some of the steam off and out of williams.
cotto throws way better punches than margarito, straighter, shorter, crisper, faster punches than margarito which would give williams a lot of trouble. with margarito's attack you can see what he's throwing a mile away, giving you time to embrace it and take it better, verses cotto's where you think you're getting out of the way of one punch and get caught with another, just like that little uppercut that sent judah to the canvas.
all in all it would be a great fight to watch and i am hyped at the available fights in the welterweight division right now. there are some fights there that must be made because that talent pool is absolutely sick!!!!!
