Just as it looked like women's boxing would be made the next Olympic sport, the LA Times is reporting that the IOC is considering banning boxing beginning from the next Olympics. The reason? Crooked scoring and no effort to make things better (at least since the introduction of Compubox). The guy in charge says they are now considering open scorecards -- i.e. letting everybody in the stadium know what the score is as the match is in progress. They're also looking into a computer program to select judges randomly, supposedly to eliminate bias among judges.
Thoughts? I know the scoring system is **** -- just look what happened to Roy Jones -- but Compubox made it totally arbitrary. Some matches you might as well flip a coin to decide who wins. I hope their next "reform" isn't as ******.
