The second Qawi fight is forgotten and an underrated win for Evander. It was such a great one punch KO, a damn good counter punch.

A small heavyweight who bulked himself up while still remaining like a Greek god will give you some idea and he did that to make himself competitive with the big heavies.
Holyfield went in to defend his cruiser weight title 5 times It had nothing to do with qawi fight you and I both know that.
      FYI your insufferable lol
      - -True, but only in popping the bubblegum fantasies the typical fan has.

It was like at MSG when the fan next to me after Rays weight was announced against Hagler, sez Ray had to gain 15 lbs of Muscle.

"No, he's fighting at his regular street weight, no extras required."

If your fighting at your street weight , you have no condition and you certainly will not be hardened enough for pro boxing and even more at the highest level ...he also wore a vest , pants and gold chain so he was no more than 157 although he came in at 158 vs hagler...3 years out the ring he built himself up gradually which is normal and those 9 pounds were in his shoulders , arms and legs .

I know it’s not overlooked by the more astute followers of boxing but in general it’s really discussed in boxing forums or lists of the best fights in the 80’s decade and I feel should be more appreciated ...it’s a fantastic fight in every way

            - -What grade U in?

Leonard could no longer make 147. If he could beat Marv then, he would've.

He didn't. Ray had a shrewd eye. He was moping in recovery ready to retire when he got word Duran was holding parties nonstop and had blown up to 190, so he dangled huge $ and a short window to train where Duran looked like an Ethiopian orphan on the scales.

He judged Marv as low hanging fruit as he was ready to retire after after a really tough fight. Ray had been training for in secret for a year just for the moment.

            3rd grade?

seeing as Duran weighed 145 at the first fight in Montreal and then came in 1lb heavier for the rematch lol
How can he be an Ethiopian lol
That’s one of your myths debunked fruitcake right there.
Seeing as Duran always blew up in weight in between fights is another one of your false Narratives and ray arcel had to regularly grab Duran from his bed to train and not just for the leonard fight
As I said fruitcake leonard was 3 years in retirement and it’s normal for a fighter to fill out in that time or your going to argue with that as well.
Now watch this interview which was recorded in July and Duran is fully aware that leonard will exercise and immediate rematch.
In the words of Duran pay me me the money and I’ll fight him any time and anywhere.
Now sugar pea you’ve been shown up again as a fruitcake

The rematch was signed in mid August and Duran had 13 weeks to get Ready lol
As for leonard against hagler he was a weltwerweight and was clearing out the division with hearns and Duran lol

You just reminded me of the old Jerky Boys prank call albums that started out as bootleg tapes. On one of them, one of the guys keeps going "Oookay fruitcake" lol. Seems an appropriate response most of the time in those conversations.

While I don't doubt your sources, hasn't Duran always used cramps as an excuse for quitting in the second fight with Leonard from making weight and then all the food he ate right after leaving the scales? I thought I remembered Duran mentioning that. Always seemed to me more like Duran just being frustrated over Leonard's movement and being shown up with the showboating, which seemed to bother the macho Duran. Plus I always though Leonard was winning easy, but then heard the scorecards were actually closer? I guess Roberto didn't realize or even care at that point. Also seems Ray had the edge in the third fight with putting on a coat in between rounds and warming up in the outdoor ring. Could have also been Duran being in more battles, I guess, but Ray definitely fought the better fight either way the third time around too.

yeah he did mate but I remember seeing an interview with ray arcel after the fight was finished and Cosell asked him if Duran complained about cramps during the fight and arcel said he didn’t complain one time during the fight and arcel was loss for words for what happened and was actually embarrassed ....it’s not on YouTube anymore as I have tried to find it recently.
Personally I think he had to say something to justify him turning his back mid fight.
Duran is a great fighter and I have the utmost respect for him but I just think he did it because he couldn’t get to leonard and it boiled him over.
Everybody has that breaking point as we are not robots and Duran just lost it that’s my opinion on the matter.
Ironically the same thing mentally happened to mike Tyson against Holyfield in the 2nd fight and I would say Duran and Tyson in a way are cut from the same cloth...wild , primitive and mentally unstable and if things don’t go well for them they explode At certain times

Kinda sounds like Andrew Golota too. Except he explodes when things also go well for him. Kind of like him not being able to perform in front of the crowd and under the bright lights because you don't hear about him having the same problems in training. What did you think about the third Leonard-Duran fight? Was it more the cold outdoor setting or Leonard being quicker?
