If Duran can figure and fight his way inside to that light bulb chin of Tommy's, he wins! He will break that light bulb. That's a big IF.

Duran did not fair well against really tall foes, aside from Barkley. I remember watching Duran fight on the Holmes/Shavers undercard against the 6'0" tall Zeferino Gonzalez. He won but did not look very good at all. I remember thinking at the time that he should stay away from Hearns. He fought him anyways and we all know how that turned out. A rematch would not be very different. The former lightweight champ did not have the strength to walk in on Hearns like Hagler did.

Yeah. I think losing to Hearns when he did took some of the sting off of the loss. There were several factors that could be cited to excuse such a dismal performance.

But if we cut through the bull****, no version of Duran can be favored against any version of Hearns. Definitely a rematch would have gone just as bad.

You tell me.
Well Duran was just off going 15 rounds with Hagler when nobody else could. He thought he was invincieable and barely even trained for the Hearns fight. Thats how Duran was. He went in fighting easy and flat footed and got hit with a blow that no Mortal could take and reality set in.

That being said, if Duran is serious and motivated he has a great chance of beating Hearns, on the simple fact alone that he is a p4p superior fighter.

Even in the relatively short bout with Hearns, he actually stiffens Hearns up with a couple shots - But Hearns already had him hurt and didn't let up.

Duran, incredibly enough, was not prepared for the tornado that he met in Hearns. He was smiling and waving to the crowd...ffs when did he ever do that before or since? I dont think he could get inside Hearns' reach. Even if he took the bout very seriously and stayed off the booze, food and women even for a month he'd be better prepared and would make it competitive....until he got ko'd again.

              - -Credible fella on the old now defunct Cyberzone named Rocky claimed insider info, that Duran threw that fight.

No matter, Duran was notoriously inconsistent during his post welter days and he did beat the guy who beat Hearns, but we have these circular rock, paper, scissors trios all thru history.
