    Mostly one sided fight.

During that time in the hwt division the political bodies that controlled boxing wanted their own hwt champion. This was the beginnings of boxing being run like a corporate business.

Has anyone ever gotten around to figuring out how much money crooks like the WBC, for instance, take in?

I had Holmes up but nothing like a wide margin or shutout. I unlike my friends picked Holmes to win. I knew he would.
Honestly when you look back at it,without the Great White Hope hype back then and take into consideration the experience and skills of Holmes and the lack thereof from Cooney outside of punching power, Cooney put up a better fight than he had any business doing. Ask Larry Holmes himself. He will tell you Cooney was no bum but quite the opposite. Cooney gained alot of respect from Holmes that night. Not a bad fight at all.

I think its some percentage based on the purses, but in real massive fights, like Mayweather, a flat rate is worked out

I had Holmes way ahead. Don't remember my scores. I remember I watched it on a thing called ONtv before standard cable. Had a room full of people that came over to watch it.

At the time ON tv was great. Got to watch all of the Detroit pro teams and I remember that they had Kronk night at the fights. David Braxton, early Thomas Hearns, Caveman Lee, Milton McCrory, Ricky Womack, they were just stacked. Plus all of the movies. It was the sheit back then!......Rockin'

As a matter of fact I watched the most horrible thing ever on ON tv. In Deliverance, when the hillbilly is corn holing that guy and he makes him squeal like a pig. That's some f'd up sheit right there. I saw that when I was like 10 or so, I haven't been right since.

For Cooney to win a decision, if he made it to the end of the fight, is actually impossible. Considering that Cooney was dropped 3 times with 2 more points being deducted from him for low blows. That's 8 points, Cooney would have had to pitch a shut out for every round, where he wasn't dropped or had points taken just to lose by 1 point. There is just no way. I was impressed with Cooneys jab though and wonder why he abandoned it. He could have taken Holmes right out of his rythme..................Rockin'

My math is mixed up in the post above, Cooney could have won by three points if he shut Holmes out in the rounds where he wasn't dropped nor had points taken. But as we saw that was hardly possible.
