Ali avenged as Tyson KOs Holmes

I don't know about you guys but I had never read this before. I thought it was a pretty cool story.

Cus had wanted me to beat him so bad. I was offended by how bad he beat up Ali. When we drove home to Catskill [about an hour from Albany], nobody in the car said a word, we were all so upset. The next morning, Cus was on the phone with Muhammad Ali after taking this shellacking from Holmes. He said to Ali, “I have this young black kid who is going to be heavyweight champion someday and I want you to talk to him.”

Tyson, in that interview, could even recall the exact date it happened, October 2nd. He spoke about picking up that phone and telling Ali:

“When I grow up, I’ll fight Holmes and I’ll get him back for you.”

i wish he had retired in 75, maybe he would be healthy and still living today. the shavers fight wasnt less brutal than holmes. cant believe they ignored all the signs just watch this interview.

Upon hearing Tyson's voice Ali must have been thinking "That's gonna take a long time, this kid sounds like he's 6"

Ali insisted on the fight. Holmes really did not want to fight him and always felt conflicted about beating him. Holmes had a lot of respect for Ali. If a grown ass man wants and insists on getting in the ring, then he has to take the beatings that come with those poor decisions. No foul against Holmes.

I just thought it was an interesting little anecdote about the Tyson-Holmes bout. One that I had never heard.

I actually heard the same story about Trevor Berbick, that Tyson wanted to knock him out to avenge Ali, but again, Ali wanted to get in the ring again.

And then when Tyson faced Frazier's son Marvis, Ali again got into the ring and whispered in Mike's ear "get him for me as well".

I agree with this. And on the flip side, Holmes really didn't want the Tyson fight but was lured by the big bucks. Even if he did want it I doubt there would be a different outcome at that point in his career. But he took the fight and the beating that came with that decision, just like Ali.
