Gonna have to disagree with you there Hawkins.
It was thanks to the incompetence of Hagler that many
fighters from that era are so overrated today.

Gonna have to disagree with you again here Hawkins.

Mugabi was out of his weight class and Is nothing like Monzon.
And who did Mugabi actually beat? I mean all in all, not just at the time he fought Hagler. Nobody.
Do you think Mugabi would last even 3 rounds with Monzon? I certainly don't.
By the way did you know Mugabi is one of quite a few guys Hearns ducked?

Now Hearns Is a pretty decent win.
But it is a typical Hagler win. The incompetent one whippin a small weak guy.
Hearns carried his punch up pretty well. But tht could just be the steroids.
Tommy was another guy who made a name for himself by bullying weak old frail fighters.
Hearns had a glass jaw. Monzon had an iron chin.
Hearns wouldn't get out of the first round. Just the fact that Monzon isn't a slow midget would be enough to take out Hearns.

Hearns will always be a "famous loser"
He never won his biggest most important fights.

I'm not entirely sure why you use the word incompetent. If you are referring to weight classes and fighting opponents 'out of his weight class' then it should be pointed out that the ridiculous fragmentation of the original weights is partially to blame. He soundly defeated all comers. That isn't incompetence.

As for Hearns and Mugabi, I wasn't talking about their skill, I was referring to their insane power and the fact that neither managed to so much as wobble Hagler. If Hagler could take their power shots and keep coming he could walk through Monzon's as well.

Say what you want about Mugabi but the man packed destruction in each fist.

Manny Stewart stated that there is no doubt in his mind that Hagler would beat Monzon.

Monzon was one of the best of his era, but there is a whole list of guys who would have stopped beat Carlos Monzon. guys like Ray Robinson, Ray Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, McCallum, Jones jr, Hopkins, James Toney, Sam Langford....this list goes on.

I give Hagler a very slight edge. Close fight either way. But I do like Hagler's competition a bit more. He beat the badder middleweights, I think.

Since Hagler is only the second most overrated middleweight ever, I can't wait to hear who is the most overrated.

                    I will elaborate.

But only after you explain that remark about Duran Leonard 2 in the other thread...

                    What did Ray do?

Every last one of those clowns would lose to a prime Monzon.
Most of that list would get put to sleep by Monzon.
