    Corey Sanders Interview

    Corey Sanders

Hi all, I am currently interviewing Corey Sanders the former heavyweight prospect who lost sight in one eye after fighting with Andrew Golota. If you have seen that fight I am sure you will remember that great 2nd round which was a helluva war. If any of you have questions you would like to have me ask Corey on your behalf just put em in here. Also in this thread we talk about anything related to Sanders career, he is a friend of mine and a real nice gent, so please fire away.

One big reason I wanted to do this story is that we too often get caught up with the great and very good fighters and the glory but don't talk much about the other guys and the sad realities. With Corey Sanders we are talking about a kid who had some good skills but he had far more guts and cahunas than many of the bigger names as his brutal fight with Golota showed. This fight cost him dearly, so did sparring with Mike Tyson which had good results but also was a serious danger to his health. Fact is most fighters never get to realise their dreams and end up as opponents for others with the same dream. This is a story about hardship and how one man conquers them to end up a happy man content with his lot and still in love with his wife, has great kids and even a grandchild now. Until I have the whole interview done, (we are still chatting and in no hurry atm) I might put up some video of Corey in action showing that no matter what Golota throws at him (and it is harsh stuff believe me) this MAN refuses to quit even though you can see he really should. Despite all that Golota throws Corey still fights back and yes at times he makes Golota look bad.... stay tuned.

Awesome, and thanks mate. I already have some of the interview done but me and Corey are casual sorts so we won't hurry it. May post the first part tomorrow.

              A Requiem For a Heavyweight

Cory Sanders Interview - PART 1

Corey Sanders – a Requiem For a Heavyweight

McGOORTY -first of all, how is life these days mate ? hope things are well

Corey - ALL GOOD CHAMP,I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS JUST ENJOYING MY WIFEE,CHILDREN & MY GRANDCHILD,& ALSO FB

McGOORTY - happy to hear of it
Did you do well from boxing despite the eye ? was the money fair ?

Corey - IT WAZ OK I LIKED IT BETTER WHEN MY CAREER WAZ OVER & I BECAME A SPARRING PARTNER BECAUSE I KEPT ALL THAT MONEY & I MET SUM GREAT PEOPLE

McGOORTY - who were the name guys they paid you to spar with ?

Corey - DAN DANCUTTA,MICHAEL GRANT,WLADIMIR & VITALI KLITCHSKO,BALU SAUR,& A FEW OTHERS BUT MY FAVORITE GUY TO SPAR WITH WAS MIKE TYSON

McGOORTY - well we should start with Iron Mike... how do you find him as a bloke/guy

Corey - WONDERFUL & NICEST GUY YOU CAN MEET

McGOORTY - he sure did have a public persona and was obviously misunderstood a lot. So what did you like about sparring Tyson ?

Corey - THE CONFIDENCE I GOT FROM BEING IN THE RING WITH HIM IT HELP ME & HURT ME IN THE LONG RUN

McGOORTY - yes suppose he must have hurt you at times even if he is a friend that is sparring

Corey - YES INDEED FELT LIKE HE HAD BRICKS IN HIZ GLOVE

McGOORTY - He hit a bit like Rocky Marciano, HARD, I see a lot of similarities with Mike and Rocky in the way they fought

Corey - I DNT KNO ABOUT ROCKY BUT I AM SURE HE HIT LIKE A TRUCK CRASH, YES

McGOORTY - So how did you meet Tyson to spar him ? was that through Jeff Fenech or earlier ?

Corey - IT WAZ EARLIER THROUGH MY TRAINER AT THE TIME CHARLES MOONEY & MIKE LIKED OUR WORK & I BEEN ON BOARD EVERY SINCE.
JEFF DID GET ME INVOLVED WITH THE TOUR THOUGH & ME & FRENCHY (Jeff Fenech) HAD GOOD CHEMISTRY INDA CAMPZ WE WORKED TOGETHER

McGOORTY - so you and Jeff Fenech get on too, that's good, what sort of guy is he, I can tell you I already know he was a hell of a fighter, really strong and really tough. But I have never met him

Corey - WONDERFUL GUY AZ WELL FUN LOVING CHARACTER & U COULD SEE HE REALLY CARED FOR HIS FAMILY & ANYONE HE WAS CLOSE TO

McGOORTY - yes I saw him with his mate Con and up close too, I dare say anyone ever touch Con they will pay for it

              Corey - HA HA

McGOORTY - You said you sparred the Klitschko's too, you are a tall guy like them but what are they like to spar and as blokes in general ??

Corey - THEY ARE FUN GUYS WHEN YOU GET TO KNOW THEM VERY TECHNICAL BOXERS AS WELL

McGOORTY - I am a regular in many forums and there are some who do not regard Wlad or Vitali as great heavyweights which amazes me, what is your opinion on that.
I suppose there will always be haters out there who never had a real fight in their lives who think they can talk.

Corey - THATZ ONLY BECAUSE THEY WERE AT THE TOP OF THE DIVISION FOR SO LONG & NO ONE COULD REMOVE THEM BUT THEIR TRACK RECORD SPEAKS FOR ITSELF.SEE PEOPLE SAY THEY WAS ON TOP BECAUSE THE DIVISION WAS WEAK BUT I SAY IF THE DIVISION WAS WEAK THEY HELP IT LOOK LIKE THAT BECAUSE OF THEIR SKILL LEVEL

McGOORTY - I agree mate, for the first time ever we had champions Lennox Lewis and the two Klitschko's who were giants with great skills... of course that big they had great power.

              Corey - NO DOUBT.

McGOORTY - those three guys would have beaten the old time giants Carnera and Willard too, although Willard wasn't too bad, better than Carnera I would bet.

Corey - I THINK SO AS WELL

McGOORTY - I mentioned Rocky Marciano and they said the same thing about him as they do about Wlad yet Marciano was awesome in my opinion.

Corey - EXACTLY ANYTHING TO GET THERE NAME OUT.

McGoorty - the writers get forgotten, the greats never get forgotten.

Corey - I WOULD SAY I DON'T LIKE THEM BUT WE NEED THEM AZ WELL SMH GO FIGURE .

McGOORTY - The forums are full of critics

Corey - HIDING BEHIND THEIR KEYBOARDS

              McGOORTY - yep
I just watched your mate Mike Tyson fight Danny Williams... oh man that was a WAR

Corey - YES IT WAS EXCITING AS WELL

McGOORTY - Were you there for that one ?
Williams could really ****, I really felt for Mike there, that sort of body punching will destroy any man.

Corey - NA I MISSED THAT CAMP
@ THAT TIME I WAZ IN ANOTHER CAMP IN GERMANY BEFORE HE STARTED THAT CAMP

McGOORTY - I see, So Corey, what made you want to become a fighter ?

Corey - ROCKY MOVIES THEN AS A KID WATCHING TYSON I KNEW THAT'S WHAT I WANTED TO DO IN LIFE.

McGOORTY - You know Bob Mirovic said the same thing, Mike was the man who got him wanting to become a fighter... small world

Corey - ANYBODY WHO LIVED DURING THAT TIME I AM PRETTY SURE THEY WILL GIVE U THAT SAME ANSWER

McGOORTY - So how did you get started in boxing and how old were you ?

Corey - I WAS 18 & MY ASST PRINCIPAL AT MY HIGH SCHOOL HELP ME GET INVOLVED.

McGOORTY - Hell !!! you started fighting professionally at just 19 so you start at 18 and fighting just a year later
Do you think you may have rushed too fast into it ?

Corey - YEA I DID MOVE TO FAST BUT AT THE TIME I WAS MOVING ON IMPULSE GOING 100 MILES PER HOUR, I HAD THE MENTALITY THAT I COULD DO IT SO DO IT NOW & LEARN WHILE I GO AS I LEARNED THAT WAS THE WRONG MENTALITY TO HAVE SMH
BUT NO COMPLAINTS YOU LIVE &YOU LEARN.

McGOORTY - I am gonna get some sleep for now but will talk tomorrow if we can

Corey - OK THANX AGAIN GREG TALK TO U TOMAR
              GUD NIGHT CHAMP.

McGOORTY - Goodnight mate, speak again soon.
