Watching a special on a Serbian town having a statue of Rocky and also the controversy around Philadelphia very interesting

I guess a few views and not alot of comments so I will elaborate do you agree or disagree that slyvestor Stallones character Rocky deserved at statue in Philadelphia. The unveiling of the statue was part of the plot in rocky 3 and remained there for awhile.

I think I understand it more than agree or disagree with it. Many great fighters came out of Philly, most notably Joe Frazier. But Stallones character Rocky has been iconic for decades and a symbol of the cities fighting spirit that has outlasted all the greats from that city not only to boxing fans, but to casual fans and movie goers alike. Its kind of like the hall of fame. It represented more to popularity ratherbthan tovthe true accomplishmentbof the sport. Just my opinion of course.

          Frazier still deserves a statue.

Don't think there's a statue of Joe Louis anywhere, there should be.
Until that honor is granted not sure why a fictitious character gets one made!
Then again priorities have always been screwed up in society and boxing.

Rocky defeated all challengers and even came back from a devastating knockout in round one to clubber Lang,.He then took on a soviet steroid killing machine at 6'5 250 pounds and won in Russia. What other pro fighter ever did that when the odds were stacked against them? what fighter showed his heart and ability to overcome like the Rock? Thats why he has a statue he earned it the hard way and it resembles what every human being hopes to be weather they box or not. Only one other comes to mind when you think of a perfect idol....

While I'm not sure if it can be called a statue there is a huge sculpture of Joe louis' fist in Detroit and he still has an arena named after him.

The Joe Louis arena is a very nice tribute to Joe. The address is named after one of the champion hockey players playing out of the building Steve Yzerman.

Frazier and Louis both need statues.
