In fact, Dempsey did fight a middleweight in Carpentier. Georges was a small man. At the time of that fight, war-dodging Jack was still enough of an anti hero that it made good copy against Georges's heroic war record. Georges and Greb probably would have been a very good fight.

I'm not sure if either one of those is a duck, considering the guys both men did face. Not to mention Johnson's political situation and all this talk of Langford being number one heavyweight contender is a bit far fetched, at what time was this supposed to have happened? 1909? 1910? 1912?
