    Benitez Duran

What are your thoughts on the fight that took place. I thought Wilfred looked incredible frustrating Duran and the scoring was very Generous to Duran.
My questions are was Wilfredo simply at his best and had the style to pull off the performance he did or did Duran simply have an off night or was to Old to deal with Wilfred.

You never knew with Duran. At times his training habits and between fight weights were not what you would expect from a fighter that reached the levels he did so many times.

At the time I felt he fought the wrong fight, trying to box with Benitez. Had Duran used the strategy and drive he had in the first Leonard fight it might have turned out different. Benitez however, still had mad skills and was very formidable.

If you watch the U.S. broadcast of the fight you can hear Ray Leonard repeatedly saying that light middle is to big for Duran and at the time it seemed very believable. Of course Duran went on to surprise the us against Moore and Barkley.

That was a lopsided fight with ridiculously close scores. Benitez dominated Duran and if he hit harder he would probably have stopped him.

By the time this fight happened Duran as alittle past it, and also seemed to not be very focused on training camps, and i think he took for grant it his amazing skills..

Benitez clearly won, and it wasnt very close IMO

Benitez was very lucky that night. He just happened to fight Duran on one of his worst nights. If the real Duran showed up even 25 percent better, he would have walked right through Benitez at any weight.

I don't buy that. Duran looked badly outclassed (rather than poorly conditioned) in that fight. It wasn't like he was facing Kirkland Laing. Benitez was a legit hall of famer who had the wrong style for Duran.

Benitez was known to have a glass jaw and Duran couldn't hurt or touch him. I attribute that to being an unlucky night for Duran. It happens sometimes in boxing. If Duran was the normal Duran it would have been no contest in Duran's favor.

Agreed and this what I sometimes find very irritating about some people in Duran's fanbase. There is always the "he didn't train" excuse for any of his losses. He clearly lost to Beinitez because he couldn't deal with the style. There is no evidence whatsoever that his condition was any different than it was for Davy Moore.

Yes, even if duran was in the greatest shape of his life, benitez's style would always be difficult for him,, His awkward style and timing would always bother duran IMO
