    "The Easton Assassin"

How about some music in between our discussions on this site ...
    Sunburst Band: "The Easton Assassin"

Quote: [The song] not sold commercially but handed out at sparring exhibitions before the fight, and at the after-fight party at Caesars Palace by members of Larry Holmes camp during the 1982 World Heavyweight event against Gerry Cooney.

At 1:30 into the vid, Larry holds back his punches, and at 2:55 against Marvis Frazier he waves at the ref to stop the maltreatment. He also did when fighting Ali.
I’ve also seen Ken Norton showing the same ‘mercy?in the ring.
They were not all brutal killers.
Any more suggestions of those stepping back to prevent an unnecessary slaughter?

I've heard of Holmes saying he did not want Ali to get hurt and he was hoping he'd quit. He probably knew Marvis was far from ready to compete at world title level.

Zab judah stepped off the pedal when he had spinks hurt in the rematch, and he looked at the ref to step in,,

I know ive seen it in other fights, but cant recall off the top of my head, i do remember judah-spinks 2 clearly because me and my cousin watched that fight like a million times, because we were huge judah fans, and i didnt like spinks cause he beat my man mayorga

Yes, that bout went to far.

          He did. It honors him.

Larry is criminally underrated IMO, what a fighter and what a jab!

He had the misfortune of following IMO "THE" heavyweight champion in Ali, and was somewhat lacking in the personality department.

After watching Larry fight a few times I developed a somewhat serviceable jab myself.

I personally think hes a top 5 atg but I wish he'd be less bitter. hes had some reason to be in the past but he shouldnt be holding onto it. thats why I could never really like him. I do respect his accomplishments though

That I understand fully, but I also understand Larry's discontent.

He was part of Ali's entourage for a long time because he was an Ali sparring partner, so he experienced second hand what it was like being boxing royalty.

And I am sure he envisioned himself in that position if he ever claimed the crown, and when he did and it was the exact opposite of what he had seen he became very disillusioned.

It's no excuse but I fully understand.

EDIT: I remember one interview Larry was talking about how beautiful the ladies were that were ushered in to Ali's camp with a sense of awe.

Luckily people tend to revise their perceptions of fighters....probably because the media and their agenda do not antagonize rational thought processes when a fighter is retired and out of the lime light.

Holmes and Lennox Lewis both were treated horribly, aspersions were cast, when in fact both guys were ATG without a hitch.

I well remember how Holmes couldn't win with the public....He fights Ali and is then called a bully and was always compared to Ali. I always liked Holmes.

I liked him also, and he was somewhat of a profit.

Do you remember when he predicted Mike Tyson would go to jail?
                    And that he did.
