    Jorge 'locomotora' Castro

This fella could fight, and there's way too little mention of him on this section.
Castro has to be, one of the very last of real 'throwbacks' to have competed in the sport.. Had his last recorded bout in 2007, but would'nt surprise me, if he's still fighting somewhere..
Fought from lmw to cw over 25yrs or so, was a wba titlist at 160, 94-95.
His first fight with John David Jackson was fight of the year in 1994, and whadda fight!.. One of the greatest comebacks you'll ever see.
He went in with everyone too. RJJ, Duran,Terry Norris, Reggie Johnson, Jirov, and not hurt by any of them.. Jorge was a rare breed, big puncher with a granite chin.. Rarely trained, often fought, just a genuine hard bastard. 130-11-3 (90)ko

What do you lot think of him?

Strong man!! Would never be confused with a boxer but was always in the fight beginning to end! The bout with J.D.Jackson was one of my favorites and should be in the lesson book for boxers that are ahead on points and decide to go in for the kill rather than settling for a points victory.
Win or lose Castro definitely made fights fun to watch.

I remember the Castro-Jackson fight being the opener on a JC Chavez PPV. Castro seemed so hopelessly behind that I almost went out and missed his thrilling win.

One of the last true iron men of the sport, and a handsome bastard to boot. LOL

Indeed, and I liked Jackson too. Slick stylish southpaw, who before running into Castro, was considered by many as a potential superstar, but the first fight he had with locomotora, soffened him up perfectly for a prime Hopkins, and he was stopped in the 7th.. Surprised there was never a Hopkins Castro fight,, or Castro Roldan, come to think of it.. That would've been good!

If I remember right, Castro was supposed to get a Joppy fight but he fought Duran down in Argentina and won a very questionable decision over Duran. So he rematched Duran and lost and that is how Duran ended up getting a title shot against Joppy for the WBA belt.

Rodan would have been a good fight but he was long retired when Castro emerged on the scene. The first I started seeing Castro here on U.S. TV, he was a light middleweight losing to Terry Norris and Roy Jones. Both those were around the same time and Both Norris and Jones Jr. each turned in masterful boxing exhibitions with Castro.

Yes you're right, Roldan was'nt about in the 90's
Think RJJ was 17-0, 17 ko's and I thought Castro gave him his his first real test

I thought so too, though I expected Jorge Vaca to give Jones a test previous to that. Vaca had just beat future champ Quincy Taylor and stopped Mark Breland before taking on the young Jones. But Jones was devastating against Vaca.

In your previous post you mentioned J.D. Jackson, he was one I also expected to go far. When he was coming up he was beating former champs like Davey Moore and Lupe Aquino, both of which I felt still had some fight left in them.
