about a week ago I completed reading a book on sam Langford's life.
It was an interesting read on the hurdles an African Canadian/ American fighter had to struggle with to become successful at the beginning of the last century. As some of you may know sam fought in every division from lightweight thru heavey with all the top fighters of the period on his resume. He traveled to Europe , Australia and central America to ply his trade. Today we talk of rivalries being 3 fights or so. Sam fought topflight boxers over 10 times and still was dangerous when blind and overweight. I am sure there are contenders such as charley burly for the title of best fighter to never win a world title but my belief is that sam deserves this honor hands down. I highly recommend you read this book.
