    What was Cooney's best win?

I know he had some names on his resume such as norton and Lyle but they were older. Can you enlighten me on some other fighters he fought.

Stopping Lyle & Norton in one to set the Holmes fight was very big in the promoting of the fight! Those were his best wins!! I think his defeat to Holmes showed that Gerry was a pretty good contender because no one thought he'd go 5!! He fought Larry pretty tuff and surprised alot of people especially Larry!! Ray.

        Cooney

Perhaps he showed a lot of heart in the Holmes fight but he also showed
A lack of class by teeing off on a defenseless Norton against the ropes.

The last punch thrown by Cooney in that fight could have disabled or even
        killed Norton.

Kenny Norton has to be his biggest win. He had heart against Holmes, but couldn't get him down for the W.

The truth is that Cooney never beat a heavyweight contender anywhere near his prime. No doubt he was a major hitter, but his resume is very weak compared to his reputation.

Jimmy Young was still still formidable. He just lost a decision to Michael Dokes and beat 30-1 John Gardner a bit before facing Cooney. After the Cooney loss he turned around and beat 25-0 Racette, Jeff Sims and Marvin Stinson who had only one loss and was the chief sparring partner for Holmes and Joe Frazier. I felt Norton was question mark even though he beat the undefeated R.Cobb because Cobb was still a question mark. At the time I felt Norton was through after the Shavers bout and Scott Ledoux had actually sent Norton into retirement even though Norton changed his mind latter.
