Usually I rooted for Quarry, but the truth is that his achievments don't measure up to his reputation. His wins over Foster and Lyle were by far his most impressive, IMO.
    What do you mean Scary?

I also think the way he gave Shavers the "Shavers Treatment" is one of his best.

I'm working on a higight vid of him and was impressed how a past it out of shape quarry could wobble Ken Norton a few times.

And JAB I do see where you're coming from.

If he didn't like what you were saying or asking him, he would shoot a mean look at you. I've met quite a few fighters over the years and none of them gave me anything close to that look. Like he wouldn't think twice about snapping your neck (and I was just a skinny kid then). But I don't want to make the wrong impression. Quarry was usually easy to talk to and very glib.

I haven't had the honor of meeting Quarry. All the greats I've met are mo longer tough and ruthless, they're only rough
and toothless. I blame the fact I'm only 23.

        So far Ive met:
        Marvin Hagler
        Ron Lyle
        Larra Holmes
        Thomas Hearns
        Big George
        Rid**** Bowe
        Eddie Futch
Roberto Duran (thank God for Taking Spanish 3years in
        highschool)
        Giacobe LaMotta

and I've more than met smokin' Joe.

        Who else have you met?

That's a damn impressive list for only 23. You must have been very young when you met Futch.

I've been learning my trade at the Joe Frazier gym since I was 8 until it's closing. I was only like 10 or something, but he was very nice.

Dark Terror, thanks for posting all that on Quarry. And good luck in your boxing career!

Scott, I also was wondering about what you meant when you said he (Quarry) was "scary". Thanks for elaborating.

JAB, I agree with you on your post. I just finished up Battling Nelson's book & I just started reading Jerry Quarry's biography. I normally don't skip around in a book, I read 'em all from cover to cover. But here, I went to the back & read about his final days. Very sad indeed. Then I went back & am reading it straight thru now.

Terry! You're a sight for sore eyes! Welcome back!

Who's the author of the quarry bio? I'd like to pick it up.

Thanks DT! Every time I try to log in here, my computer slows down to a stop. It's the only site where my computer don't work right. Then in between posts, I have to wait a while while it loads back up.

Anyway, here's a link to the Quarry book.....

It's a really good read so far. I think you'd love it.

It's been that way for me too lately. No problems with most other sites.
