Reasons to like and not to like Trinidad

Pros:
He was a great puncher
He was in great wars
He beat Whitaker (well, at least for me its a reason )

Cons:
He was a dirty fighter
He made grimaces before the fight
He was full of himself
He ruined Vargas

Generally a limited fighter. Some controversy late career regarding his wraps.

Like/love:

Threw beautiful power punches. Left hook amongst the best in history

Turned toe-to-toe fighting into an art form.

Great finisher.

Brought pure electricity to his fights. I attended both the Joppy and Mayorga fights in MSG, and the atmosphere was indescribable.

Was vulnerable to early knockdowns, but that just created more excitement and drama.

Willing to fight the best.

Never injured, thus causing a delay.

Not like:

Easily discouraged by losses.

The wrap controversy, which was really much ado about nothing (admitted as such by Nasim Richardson himself).

Could be made to look like a plodder by elite boxers.

His fans were great/awful. They helped generate the great electricity, while also being blinded a bit too much. The way they dismissed Hopkins' chances proved they were more about Tito's nationality than they were the sport of boxing.

No welterweight could "box" 12 round with Trinidad without eventually getting in to a fight(or running like DLH)

Can't see any reason not to like him. He was badass to watch. Always trying to **** it out, i wish we had more boxers around like that now at the elite level.

Can't see any reason not to like him. He was badass to watch. Always trying to **** it out, i wish we had more boxers around like that now at the elite level.

I agree. The only thing I didn't like about Trinidad was Don King. His father was a crybaby too.

The number of times Trinidad went down in his career and still got up to win is pretty shocking. Off the top of my head I cant think of a fighter who did that more often.

Add in his punching power and number of exciting fights, and I cant really think of any reason not to like the guy.

He came to fight and knock his opponent out which always made for exciting fights win or lose

Proud of his nationality

Was always willing to fight the best ( has fought some great fighters)

You could shrink Hopkins and Wright into welterweight frames and they would still beat Tito's ass. They are simply bad matchups for him and would always have been regardless of what weight class it was fought in.

Tito wasn't a welterweight by the time he fought Hopkins and especially by the time he fought Wright either.

He was a legit middleweight against Hopkins. Just look at how he handled Joppy (dropped him numerous times and stopped him in 5, first time he ever been stopped in 34 fights). Hopkins did everything he could to try and stop Joppy years later but he couldn't do it.

He was a heavy favourite going into that fight also. Hopkins was just too smart, too skilled, too good for Trinidad.

His loss to Wright was not long after a two year layoff, but that was down to Wright simply being better than him, not the weight.
