I just thought he meant that SRL had vision problems other than that.

Yeah, don't think Leonard's vision was really bad but Heavy did say at one point or another and he did have that eye problem.

I'm not exactly sure how bad a detached retina is though.

was going to say that! i heard somewhere he was blind in one eye from a sparring incident and in the 2nd fight with ali his good eye swelled up and he fought the last few rounds more or less blinded....

Your retina is where the image you see focuses on and is attatched to the optic nerve I think. So it kind of peels off and leaves you partially blind at that part and if it completely detactches you are blind fully. I think it can be repaired using laser eye surgery where the laser acts as a welding device to "weld" it back on.
