    Any Collectors in here?

I just started a new hobby I've been wanting to do for awhile.

I'm buying a bunch of old memorabilia of old fighters I liked and framing it together. I just bought a crap load of Jack Dempsey stuff, Autographs, Cards, Stuff from his bar. It's gonna look great once its done.

It's quite enjoyable, next is Jake La Matta.

Was curious if anyone else here is a collector?

I collect boxing dvd's. Have over 200 career sets. Started 4 years ago when I received a Roy Jones career set. It was given to me, because he was mad at the 3rd Tarver fight. I've been addicted ever since

Yeah I've always planned on getting a bunch of those, but my walls are empty right now so I figured decorate with boxing stuff.

I wanted to buy old boxing posters, but there is a big market for those and they are pretty expensive. So I figured I'll collect stuff piece by piece and frame it instead. There is some really awesome stuff on ebay.

A really good friend of mines. He will be opening a boxing store very soon. He will be selling posters, classic Ring ****zines, paintings, autographs, and a lot more stuff. He hopes to have the place open by the end of the year. It's going to be an internet site

I collect, I have cases of ****zines(all for 30 years), boxes of toys(like action sports full sized Muhammad Ali, Frazier etc). I have a collection of fighter and fights- T-shirts, cups mugs and posters. I have every trading card set that has boxers from the last thirty years(Ringlord, KO Browns). Book shelfs of hardback books. A pile of autographs like Ali, Archie Moore, Leonard, etc.
two rooms and two closets full of vhs tapes dating from the 80's. And my main collection is dvd's of which I'd like to think I have all the televised fights, but every once in a while I find one I don't have.
          Drives my wife crazy too!

thats awesome, I want to buy a bunch of stuff, but can't afford it while living in the city. So I figured I would just do projects and collect things of certain fighters and over time have a bunch of them.

It gets very addicting, I think eventually I might try to do Charley Burley, extremely hard to find anything of his.

Would love to do Ali, but can't afford him. Now that his signature is bad and he will pass soon, his stuff is insanely expensive. So for now I'm sticking with fighters who have a lot of stuff on the market.

Cool, can you post a link here when the site is up? I collect career sets on DVD as well. I don't think I have as many as TBear though. I just started about a year ago. The only other ones I'll probably be getting will be any new or current boxers I hear of that are good prospects, preferably with a lot of knockouts. I did recently get a couple of fights of Bob Fitzsimmons and Stanley Ketchel, along with a few of Barney Ross I still have to watch.

Just in the sport of boxing I have the boxing gloves that were used in the Tom Sharkey/Kid McCoy bout, the Sugar Ray Robinson/Tony Riccio bout, and gloves that Sonny Liston wore n his last bout, against my good friend Chuck Wepner.

I also have ticket stubs that go back to the 1800's, including Jack Dempsey, Sugar Ray Robinson, Benny Leonard, Johnny Dundee, Firpo/Willard, etc.

Poster of the 1st Dempsey/Tunney bout. Record books as far back as 1905, All the Ring Record Books, Everlast, Post. The very 1st Ring ****zine (1922), and most of all the rest. Also many boxing books.

I also have the World Championship Belts from the WBC, WBA, WBO and the IBF. I also have a remake of the John L. Sullivan Belt.

Lots of pictures and articles of old-time boxers. 1,000 of tapes of boxing matches.

I also have the telegram that was sent to Mike Jacobs, thanking him Joe Louis and Buddy Baer, for the Navy Relief Fund.

                There's a lot more too!

I recently received my prize piece in the mail. A original Joe Louis vs Max Schmeling fight poster. It's a great piece and the price I paid is next to nothing because the seller didn't know what he had.

My one concern is that it is a replica. There is nothing about it that makes me believe it is one but when I factor in that these posters sell in the thousands I got it for a fraction of the price it does make me wonder.

I was wondering if any posters here knew anything about how to judge a piece like this or of a service in the NYC area that can grade such a piece?

I've been collecting stuff. Aside from autographed photos and dvds, I try and grab any memorabilia I can like gloves, books, tickets, programs, etc. I have been writing a memorabilia price guide, since there really isnt one that I have seen that is dedicated strictly to boxing memorabilia. In the 'Training and Nutrition' forum, I posted some pics of my gym and there is some of my memorabilia in the photos.
