    Alexis Arguello's Skills?

How do you rate them? Just pure skills?

8 out of 10. He had every punch in the book with speed, timing and power to go with it. Was a great body puncher with an excellent sense of distance. Not a bad defense but could be hit. Footwork seemed a little slow, but I think he fought like Joe Louis in trying to draw his opponents into his punching range rather than chase them. Jmo.

Above average in most skills sets, but he lacked some movement for his defense. His footwork were good, but not very fast.

the funny thing with Arguello is that you have to watch closely all he does to realize how great he is, cause at first glance, he might look ordinary

he could mix up his punches up and down, his footwork was good despite the fact that he was not the most mobile fighter (his stalking style didn't require a very athletic footwork anyway)

his timing was awesome, his defense may be a bit underrated

he knew how to create openings too
just watch how he gets to Pryor's head with a great right cross after creating that opening with a right uppercutt to the body (4:28)

he was a clever fighter, and if he had you hurt, it was good night

often considered the best body puncher ever

something like that. I dont know about the best body puncher ever (dont get me wrong, certainly pretty high on the list), but his cool, and his body punching while he had his guy hurt or on the ropes, certainly made him one of the deadliest finishers ever.

I wonder where we would rank him had he beat pryor.

He had very good skills, his timing is what made him special though.

The one thing i think of with Arguello is 'patience'.

He could wait all night for the right moment to throw his killer right. Like he did against Mancini.
