      Mid 60's thru the late 70's was excellent for heavyweights and the late 80's thru the late 90's was pretty good too.

        Larry Holmes era was fairly competetive and hugely better than the last 15yrs which we have suffered in Heavyweight Boxing, Holmes fought many tough opponent with those opponents being at the top of their game with many of them having little trouble being a champion today or even undisputed champion today.... Lets take a look at some of the fighters in Larry Holmes Era.

              quite true.. Holmes may well have struggled with guys like Tony Tubbs, James Tillis, Michael Dokes, Greg Page & Frank Bruno, Pink Thomas

                well if you compare any era to right now it will look great by comparison but i think considering the period beforedirectly before it Ali, Frazier Foreman and the period directly after it Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Lewis I think you could argue that it was a weak period

                  But he fought Witherspoon, who was better than everyone else. Problem is he arguably lost (I had him losing) and he never gave Tim a rematch.
