I'm from Colorado, but though I had certainly heard about all-time great heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey as a youngster, it was quite a while before I came to learn that he was a Colorado native -- born in the small town of Manassa, acquiring the nickname "The Manassa Mauler".

Here is a photo of the restored home of Dempsey's childhood -- now on the grounds of his museum park in Manassa (Conejos County, Colorado). The log house has a stone fireplace with a stone well in front of it.
