While you're at it, read the article. It's pretty interesting.
How far back do you want to go? Spain and his name was Daniel Mendoza.

Mendoza was never a world champion as world champions did not exist yet. That said, I know of no ancient Iberian champions, so, first Hispano lineal, or major champion, sure, but world...I don't think so.

On Pinoys hispanic-ness. A Filipino would know better than I but as a PR I see them as cousins. They're the asian hispanics. Far as natives being asian, okay, but like 20K years of separation is a bit more than some ethno groups people don't question or combine. Maybe when we was cavemen brah get me?

Generally speaking on the islands we are a mix of taino, spanish, and mandinka in amounts in that order. Mostly native with some euro in there and a bit of afro in there too. Mexicans are not Taino and I'm not sure they're Mandinka either. Still my cousins though. Does they wear colorful dressies? Y'all already get me. Filipino-spanish is still spanish. A lot of our and their culture is convergent for the same reason Mexicans and other former SE colonies are. Spain. Espana.

Sidenote - I hold no ill will toward Spain or the SE. They did their thing ya know. I'm pretty sure I get my meaness from them. Taino are not mean folk. They're literally called "The good people" in their day by neighboring tribes. Like De La Rocha shouted in 92; your anger is a gift. Puerto Ricans are some mean ****ers now. When is the last time a Spanish boy whooped one of ours in the ring? I like my mix.
