Hopkins started at 23 didn't he? look where he is now. He also faught and defeated -

Tarver: was like 27/28? not exactly the greatest boxer to walk the earth but he does hold two wins over RJJ!!

Well, Hopkins had his amateur career behind bars, lost on his pro debut and took like 18 months off or something before he came back. Amateur background or not he still only STARTED in the pro ranks in like his mid-20's.

Think what people like Tyson, Trinidad, DLH etc had done by that age.

Tarver, while having a longer amateur career indeed, again, was still starting in the pro ranks when he wasnt far off 30. If you think about it in terms of how long you still have your youth, he had his best years behind him and started his career when most people were about 2/3rds through theirs.

I think Carl Froch was a bit late, I think he turned pro when he was 24 or around that age.

i think im one of the few people who think anything under 25 is pretty early to start boxing. it just depends on their background/condition
