    Gentleman Jose Alonso?

In the , the following statement appears: "On 6 April 1871, Mace suffered a loss in New Orleans to Gentleman Jose Alonso." No citation is given, nor can I find much on Alonso (I also tried Alonzo and the first name Joe) other than a cryptic reference repeated verbatim in a couple of sources including : "However, on 6 April 1871, Mace suffered a loss in New Orleans to Gentleman Jose Alonso, whom suffered a loss from his future wife, Madam Lia Presti." The faulty grammar makes it somewhat difficult to discern the true meaning, nor have I found any reference to a Lia Presti in any of the New Orleans history resources I'm familiar with. Has anyone on the forum ever heard of Alonso? Thanks in advance for any help.

I can't find anything on Alonso either. I looked in the book that I have called Bare Fists by Bob Mee. No mention of that April fight against Alonso. Mace did defend the title on November 30th 1871 against Joe Coburn which was ruled a draw. Perhaps the Alonso fight was an exhibition.
