A willingness to fight the best at their best; not when they are past prime, on their way up, or shot--little to no mismatches on their resume. Skills and ability, overcoming adversity, challenging themselves, and to an extent their overall positive impact on the sport as a whole.

You start out in the hood and everyone has to be able to throw a nice right to get home from school... Then you hear about fighters like Todd Herring: A newspaper writer from Houston wrote about being a kid in herring's hood: "He was a bully and if you crossed him he would lay you out with one shot." So all the "herrings" come and some make it to the next level... Incidentally Herring fought Cat Williams and was outclassed...he said as much... That next level is somewhat rare talent... Now your going to need some luck here, your going to have to find a way to be intelligent strictly speaking and Learn as you fight at this level... No horrid injuries... Incidently that same Cat Williams had an event that permanently took him out of being great... How about Oliver McCall? A guy that boxers trembled at the thought of sparring? But mental & drug problems... I could go on...

Ahh I see you made it to the next level! The air is thin up here... So you are talented, you can adapt your gifts to win, you have physical attributes that are there for you... Well in this group? Can you overcome adversity? Can you hide or mask deficiencies? Are you crazy to the point where you will not stop fighting in the ring unless your body metabolickly shuts down? Do you have supreme confidence?

Whew boy! Welcome to Shangrai la. At this level You are extremely smart, willful, Most of you Love to fight... What is that mr Robinson? Yes I heard... You actually did not like to fight and preferred to dance... God has a sense of humor does he not? But you are mean... And so is the rest of this group, when in the ring. You have instinct physical gifts and the intelligence to apply them consistently. Your body holds up and you can fight hurt... And this is where it ends with this admonition: YOU FIND A WAY TO WIN. And... Nobody is left!

So Joshua's entertainment level is exceptional. OK. He also does hit Usyk quite a bit... But there are levels to the game... Joshua is about Frank Bruno level or so... give, or take.

Resume and skillset. But resume trumps skills in my opinion. You don't have to be the most skilled to have the best resume. Determination and grit are key factors in greatness.

BOOM, as Ari Gold would say. This right here. Was just about to post resume until I read this. Skillset is a good addition I didn't think of as well though. Bu yeah, who you beat and when you beat them as in beating them in their prime or as close to it as possible. Or wins past their own prime against people in their prime.

Frank Bruno is 1-4 in title fights, AJ is 9-3.

Same range of the likes of George foreman and joe frazier (5-3 5-2)

It is a fair point... I tend to look at quality of opposition rather than titles. Titles are relative as compared to the quality of opposition. Bruno beat some decent fighters like Tillis, Williams, McCall, Coatzee, etc... He lost to Lewis in a good effort, and he lost to Witherspoon who was much better than generally credited. If we look at Joshua by comparison, he managed to beat Vlad and lost to a talented Ruiz once... I would say on that accord, while AJ edges Bruno out having beat Vlad and avenged the Ruiz defeat... they are comparable to the talent level they rose to... Considering that Bruno had a great effort against Lewis while AJ had a tough time with Vlad.

Now if we look at the general quality of fighters beaten... the guys AJ beat, like Whyte, Martin, Parker, Kubret, etc I would concede that you have a point: namely that AJ fought some guys above the pay grade of Bruno's average competition... I guess the degree of difference here IMO is not that great, although there is a difference.
