    Sergey Kobozev

This guy had something in common with Sonny Liston-he was killed by the mob. Although in his case it was not because of a ******** debt or that sorta thing. He was killed because he dared to stand up to a couple of mobsters. He had balls.

When he was killed Kobozev was one of the major talents in the cw division and was the first, if I'm not wrong, to beat John Ruiz. His record was 22(18)-1. His last fight was, ironically, a SD loss to Marcelo Fabian Dominguez. May he be remembered.

I remember this. Wasn't he part of a team of Russians some promoter brought over to be the first professional fighters from the Soviet Union?

I remember the Ruiz fight, it was close and if I remember right it was a cruiserweight bout.

Ever wonder? These are some of the known mob killings, how many are unknown throughout the history of boxing.

All I know is that he was a captain in the army before going to America. And that he worked as a bouncer in the club where this Russian mobster prick was ejected and thats why he got killed.

His wiki page said he was a captain in the Russian army and was a chemical engineer in St. Petersburg before going pro

His fight with Ruiz is on Youtube, looks good.

He was brought over along with 2 others

Yuri Vaulin - who is best remembered for handling Tommy Morrison pretty easily until Yuri quit cuz of body shot. He was a 6'4 southpaw and from the little bit i'v seen he looked pretty skilled. He seemed to just lack heart.

Sergei Artemiev - at 23 yrs old was 1 win away from getting a title shot against Miguel Angel Gonzalez but in that fight he got permenitly injured, almost died, and couldn't continue boxing.

I remember these guys along with Alex Artemiev and Viktor Egorov, have a alot of their cards when they first turned pro. Don't remember Kobozev on them, but he could have been. I think Sergei was a good fighter, too bad about the injury.

But I believe he suffered the injury while he was fighting Carl Griffith.
