At other times Ali ranked himself 3rd behind Jack Johnson and Joe Louis.

If you look what Ali said about past Champions as a whole over many years,he always held them in very high esteem.Mainly Johnson,Dempsey,and Louis.His tone of voice was in reverant respect for Louis and Johnson,and even other past champions.

Yes if you watch the whole lot of the links its amazing how Ali can switch from supreme arrogance to real humility, especially regarding Marciano. Most would probably favour Ali over Marciano in a matchup, but Ali was very reverent.
